Add or edit contacts on Exchange (Office 365) from Android

I'm new to Andriod from Windows Phone. I have a Nexus 5x running Nougat. My company uses Office 365 for our email, calendar, and contact management. The Outlook for Android app seems to manage my email and calendar just fine, however there is no facility to add or edit contacts. I can add or edit contacts in the built-in contact app, but the changes/additions don't stick.

Am I missing something, or how are others dealing with this severe limitation in functionality?
