Added unlimited HOTSPOT for $30

I rooted my Thunderbolt. I should be cool having an extra $30 in my pocket

Save it, you might need it later to pay for overages. Pay now or pay later, your choice.

I could've rooted too, but for $30 monthly, I get to cancel my home internet, and save some cash there.

Besides, $30 gives me piece of mind and I don't even have to look over my shoulder.

Only thing to worry about now is throttling. But, I do not abuse--so no worries there either. Enjoy the root bud.

OK, I'll buy the first round (Yeungling OK?). BTW, I don't remember you saying I was overthinking anything, but that never needs to be said!

Thanks, Robrecht
I signed up today. $30/mo-Unlimited on my existing TBolt line.

I questioned the rep extensively. Here's what the rep confirmed (FWIW).

-If you qualify for the unlimited MHS/MBBC it will be a something that you can remove and replace with pro-rating only for the days of use (i.e. $30 for 30 days - $15 for 15 days, etc) Even when you add it back, since your line is qualified for the unlimited, you don't have to move to Tiered just because you removed and re-added it. It's just pro-rated at unlimited (days only). This all goes by line. If you add a line you will need to get Tiered.

-If you do not qualify for the unlimited plan but have to sign up for the Tiered MHS/MBBC, you can still remove and add it back with pro-rating, but it will be pro-rated for Days and Units of Data too. Meaning, you can't get away with signing up for 1 day at $20/mo and downloading 4GB on one day. Your units will be pro-rated to one day too (ouch) and you will have to pay any overages above your daily authorization (i.e. 4GB/30Days=0.133GB per day.

Whelp.... that's what the rep said... Hehe... Lot's more to come on this, I'm sure.

How do they figure that some customers quality and some don't if we are always referring to people currently "Grandfathered" in? I can totally make sense if they were trying to explain process for exsisting and then new customers but how does that have any relevance to process that affects people currently with unlimited 4g plan as current customers?

Do we ALL qualify under those circumstances or they trying to claim only "specific" plans of $80 or more a month in service quality of you are SOL and need to upgrade to new more expensive plan....then tiered data and get screwed yet again..then maybe you qualify? lol Customer service at its best!

So, if I understand you correctly, you seem to be saying that I was right all along. I think that's worth a Yeungling! ;-)

Thanks, Robrecht

I asked him that. And it is just as we have all expected. Anyone owning a 4G phone line on 7/6/11 or prior, and already having unlimited 4G data (and access to the free unlimited MHS trial - whether you used it or not) is "qualified" to be grandfathered into $30/mo MHS/MBBC Unlimited Data. I didn't ask about a time limit but I believe it is a long as your line remains qualified (forever on that smartphone line?). Imagine that you added another smartphone 4G line to your plan. That line would NOT qualify (now that 7/6/11 has passed).

Has anyone who has gotten the $30 unlimited wi-fi hotspot today able to sign up for it BEFORE their FREE hotspot stopped working? I was told I couldn't sign up for it as long as my phone was still getting the free hotspot. My problem is that the free hotspot still hasn't gone away on my phone yet and I'm leaving on vacation early tomorrow morning and would like to make sure I have wi-fi hotspot when I'm gone. I know I can call when I'm on the road, but I'd prefer to take care of this before I leave.

Yes. I did on 7/7/11 - today. My free MHS was still working at the time. I was told I could have done it on-line via MyVerizon.

Hmm... I'm not sure I can wait! I'm so happy to get unlimited data with MHS!

Guess it depends which rep you get. The first one took like 20 minutes and they were tripping over themselves, I just gave up. The second rep had everything locked and loaded in what must have been 30 seconds flat.

I called and got a very helpful/friendly rep. He did initially tell me there was no unlimited mobile hotspot plan, but I explained that several others had verified today that it existed. He checked further and did find it. He even apologized for not knowing about it. He activated it immediately and I checked my verizon online and saw that it was indeed added. So, like others have said, if you call and are initially told there is not an unlimited mobile hotspot for $30, nicely tell them there is.

For those who still have the free hotspot, I do believe that it will end today sometime (or tomorrow). I was told that not all phones would lose it at the same time. I'm not sure what is involved in blocking that feature but it might be similar to the OTA updates that don't roll out to all the phones at once. (I know this isn't an OTA type update but the principle would be the same.)

Mine is still active as well. I switched a couple days ago so I wonder if they just start at the top of the list with the oldest customers and work it down.

I do not see this listed as a feature I can add on my account page though. But its good to hear the phone reps say it exists. I think I'll wait and see how long it goes, for curiosity's sake.

Also, people who only have unlimited 3G data on 7/6/11 will have this option as well:
Verizon: Unlimited 3G Customers can Upgrade to 4G LTE and Receive the $30 Unlimited Hotspot Deal - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

So if I wanted to add this what exactly do I need to call and say?

When I go onto my Verizon online, there is NO OPTION for unlimited hotspot/tethering for $30

Next person to call in, please see if you can get us the feature code for the $30 MHS to make it easier for those after you. :)

FWIW.....I just activated and am using the Mobile Hotspot feature on my Bolt, didnt ask me to agree to anything other than usage would be deducted from my monthly allowance.... maybe they DO need to do a software update????
