I just found out the company I work for offers employee discount for Verizon

I on my dad's plan right now (that unlimited data!), whenever I finally get a work email (I've only been there for a year, SMH) I would like to add the discount, if I do that, that won't kick me off my unlimited data plan will it? Thanks

and just for more background, I'm the only one with unlimited data (my dad has a "dumbphone" and my mom has a Iphone with 2 GB data)

Hard call there, but I would inquire w/ Verizon about it for sure. I think all you have to do is submit the work/company email address at the Verizon website and it will verify if its a recognized discount supported by Verizon.

I would first contact Verizon CS before moving forward.

You will not lose unlimited data. I also believe the discount will apply to the primary line only. No need to contact them about losing data.

And Paul. Go Hawks! I'm awaiting puck drop!

that's fine since the primary line is paying for most of it LOL

It won't work if the account is in your dad's name, since the employee discount needs to be for the person that actually owns the account---your dad.
However, you could do one of 3 things:

1, Separate your line from the family plan, transfer it to a new account in your name and register for the discount. However, you may pay more in the long run.

2. Transfer the entire account over to your name and register for the discount. Your dad can continue to pay for it since VZW will happily take money from anyone.

3. Leave the account in your dad's name and try to register for the discount anyway. I wouldn't recommend it, but it's an option. However, it is definitely against policy and the account could get flagged in the future and the discount removed.

One thing I'm surprised wasn't mentioned is that you don't have to have a work email. You can take a recent pay stub into a store and they can activate it that way (assuming you're allowed to as others already addressed).

I went into one of the local Verizon stores and they told me they were unable to do it. I had to register with my work email.
