On my HTC Thunderbolt I want to save some of my e-mail messages to a new folder so that I can clear the inbox, but the only folders in my mail are the inbox, trash, sent, draft, and outbox and I cannot see a way to add a new folder to go along with these. Does anyone know of a way I can add another folder to my mail so I can keep my e-mails but get them out of the inbox?

Welcome to the show!

What type of email account are you using? Gmail, web mail, pop, exchange... Need that first to point you in the right direction.

You probably have your Mail viewing/checking set to "All Accounts". That will only show you the folders that all your accounts have in common.

Also, I think folders have to exist on the mail server itself before you can move/check message in them on your phone.

Do this: Mail | Menu | Account List | Select a discreet mail account | Menu | Folders. Do you see what you want?

I haven't found a way to add folders to the email account via the phone interface. You'll most likely have to add the folders via desktop/laptop in the native account, then the phone will 'see' these folders the next time it syncs.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. At least it's a pretty easy fix.

Add POP mail folders?

I followed that advice by going into my POP server's web mail interface, where I added a new folder. I allowed my Thunderbolt to do its automatic refreshing of the Inbox, then tried a manual refresh after that. Still no new folder. With Gmail or some other IMAP-style email account, folders can be added from the device or from the mail server, but it does not possible to add a new POP mail folder on my Thunderbolt.

Doing a little more research, I believe the issue is that a POP account doesn't sync folders other than the native ones built into the mail app.

However...before I got my TBolt, I had an Eris running 2.1 that would not allow full synchronization with Exchange. My work around for that was to use an IMAP set-up which fully displayed all of the folders in the Exchange Account. Does your email service offer IMAP as well as POP? If so, this may be a work around for you. That being said, I still could not add folders from the Android email app. They had to be added in the native email (Outlook in this case) and then they showed up in the Android app.

I cannot guarantee that this will work, but maybe it'll help.

MD :)
