You should look at other phones if you want extra software features. The Essential phone pretty much runs stock Android with no special features. It feels a lot like using a Pixel or one of the last Nexus phones with a worse camera. With that said, there are other reasons to purchase the Essential phone. Stock Android with no bloatware and unlockable bootloader could be considered a big plus. The overall design of the phone is pretty stunning. You get a nice 5.7" screen with very minimal bezels (85% screen to body ratio). Essential has been consistently pushing software updates and security patches, which should continue at least 2 years after release date.
