Is there an app or anything out there that will let me manage my contact list besides on Gmail? I have a bunch of double contacts and such I want to delete or edit. Whenever I try and do it straight from my phone after the second or third person, I get a force close and it is just annoying.

Have you tried clearing cache and data in the contact app on the phone to fix the FC. Settings>applications>manage applications>all>contacts then clear data and cache.

You can remove contacts from your computer if your syncing your contacts in Gmail. Just select the person and select more actions then delete.

+1

If you're an Excel person you can also export to CSV, edit the CSV in Excel, wipe your gmail contacts and then import the edited CSV.

Here is the issue and maybe it will make more sense. I have over 250 contacts in my phone but only something like 29 of them were showing up in my Gmail. So I exported my phone's address book into a file, emailed it to myself, and imported it into Gmail contacts. Then when I went to my phone, I noticed that all my contacts had two linked contacts from Gmail.

Yes, that will happen. The phone will have contacts from 'phone', sim and your gmail account. If you do not want to bother to delete them, simply select display options and select which ones you wish to see.

However, there does appear to be some glitch, since if only 29 were showing in your gmail a/c then only 29 should be linked/duplicated.

I would delete the 'phone' contacts and use gmail contacts - it has many advantages - you are always backed up, you can manage contact groups easily, you can find duplicates with part info in each and merge them, etc. If as with all of us, there may be large number of e-mail contacts who one does not call, then again in display options (or maybe in google a/c settings) you can choose to display only contacts with phone numbers.

In the alternative you would require to use something like MyphoneExplorer on PC and a contacts app to manage the 'phone' contacts.
