I'm having a problem of when I go to split screen on most of my apps the split screen is the same size as a single screen and it puts something else on the opposite side. For instance when I go into my texting app it puts my contacts on my left and their name is just as big as the text is on the right it's a lot of wasted space on the left is there a way to adjust the middle bar more to the left?

You can always hold the middle bar and move it to resize windows. Also, after resizing, you can save an app pair, and it will save the change and launch it as you wanted.

I totally screwed up the verbiage on the post, I am not actually going into split screen I am going into my messaging app and it automatically splits the screen but it's full screen app. It puts the names on the left and the text on the right but it's not in split screen mode.

So open the display then go to phone menu settings>display>screen layout and zoom>choose standard

I couldn't find any other way to resize in portrait mode, but if you don't want to enable auto rotate and want to open messages by default in landscape orientation, you can do that using "modes and routines".
