Other than not voiding your warranty, what else would be the advantages of waiting for the OTA 2.2?

Am I correct, that you cannot root AFTER you get the OTA 2.2???

I am assuming the OTA will or may be a later and thus better or more stable build. Then again there is no saying for sure until it is released but that is what the speculation is.

unless they close up the hole that allowed the droid 2 to be rooted, we should be able to root the ota in a similar (or same) manner.

as for warranty, you can flash back to the official 2.1, so there really isn't any issue there unless you somehow brick your phone.

personally, if the 2.2 leak runs well for you (as it does for me) then i see no advantage in waiting around for the official, as whenever it drops, you can update to that as well.

I got the 2.2 leak running smoothly w/ no problems other than loosing my root
(waiting for UNSTABLEAPPS to do the update) but I'm a happy camper here.

No need to wait. Flash back to 2.1 then root. Move su file from system bin to xbin then do the 2.2 update.rooted 2.2 :)

You can use the droid 2 method to root the droid x if you updated to froyo before you switch the files. You just have to make sure you get the build.prop file for the droid 2 so you can get all the apps in the market

why is that did u cut the battery tab? i have no issues removing my battery. i do swaps 2 or 3 times a day.
I did the rsd lite route and midway it asked me to manually power up the phone. It had done this on it's own and just got stuck with the "EYE". I pulled battery, had to revert back to virgin status and start all over from the beginning (connecting w/ Verizon to turn the phone on) what a nightmare! I think I'll wait for the Easy Root update. Besides the battery got all chinked up from me prying it out and don't really want to go there again.

You know, if I had the cash laying around to purchase another X full price, I'd probably fiddle around with rooting, using the leaked 2.2, etc...but I don't. So, for now, will just wait for the OTA 2.2 and call it good:-) Thanks for all the advice, however.

I didn't notice any battery tabs, just a sticker that said "remove" I guess before putting the battery in but I'm not seeing this tab thing.

any help?

Take out your battery and take another picture.

I took the battery out (little easier this time. butter knife) I don't see no tab.

So if I go ahead and go back to 2.1 using RSD, do I let it go all the way to where it wants to power back up? It had asked me to do it manually but the phone had done so on it's own and I got stuck w/ the droid eye just starring at me. Thats where I pulled battery and then rebooted (power and home buttons) and choose to RESET. I DON"T WANT TO GO BACK AND RESET. Where did I mess up? And wheres this battery tab?

Srry guys I did some snooping around here and found the answers to the RSD questions I had, looks like you have no choice but to reset, and let the red eye go for ten minutes or so. (so long as it's not in a boot loop) but any ideas on the battery tab?

UPDATE- I went back to 2.1 and got back my root,I'm planning on waiting for FROYO's early Sept. release (still on the fence on that one, got the update zip waiting like a caged lion sitting on my SD card)) should I just wait and move SU to Xbin right before the OTA update or can I do that now with no effects to my root if I just let SU sit in Xbin? Just playing scenarios here...............

There's no guarantee that moving the SU file is going to keep your root after OTA. You might just lose root altogether and then have to wait for them to get it back again unless the process is the same.

hopefully the current method that works on the leak as well as the droid 2 will remain viable.
