So I have never flashed, rooted, etc. I need some advice/answers on the following:

1. I downloaded the Wug backup/root kit. If I back up, will I be able to load all existing data on ICS onto my new JB O/S?

2. How long does it take to install the new O/S

3. I have downloaded JB from Bugless Beast.....is this a good choice?

Thanks!

1. Use Titanium Backup to backup applications with data.

2. Just the installation of the OS and google apps takes about 5-8 minutes. It actually takes longer to download than to install.

3. I preferred a custom ROM that includes a lot of new features. CM10 from Euroskank is what I chose.

1. If your bootloader is not unlocked yet, then you'll need to unlock it first - which wipes your data. Otherwise if you're already rooted on ICS you can install and use Titanium Backup to back up your apps and data.
2. As TabGuy said, the actual installation process is fairly quick. 5-10 minutes.
3. I almost always end up running a Bugless Beast ROM, since I'm not all that into all the extra features and customizations that other ROMs bring. Pete's ROMs are about as close to stock as you'll get, so if you want a pure AOSP experience BB is the way to go. Plus it's really smooth since it doesn't have all the extra changes. If you're looking for new features and customizability then you'd want to look at other ROMs.

Hope that helps.

I just did the same thing last week (i.e., broke my "root" cherry) using Wugfresh's toolkit. As others have said...

1. Titanium backup is key and make sure you backup "data" so that your user settings will be restored along with the app.
2. The installation is fairly quick as others have said.
3. I'm running Droid Vicious JB 4.1.1. From what I gather it is fairly JB stock, but that's what I was looking for.

Have fun and relax. It's not as bad as you think. The worst part of the entire process was finding and installing the damn drivers!
