Advice for purchasing a Nexus 6P

Hello,
I brought a few weeks ago a 128 GB Nexus 6P for $500.00.
I'd like have some input of it is worth holding on to given we are two months away from a new Nexus phone.

Do you like the phone? Does it do what you want it to do? What do you think you'll get out of a new nexus that this one won't give you.

I don't know why you would give up a phone that you have in your hands today for a phone that you won't have for at least two months, probably closer to three. I may get the next Nexus too, but I'm keeping this one until that time at least. Until I actually see the new ones I won't decide if I'll make the move or not.

So I would keep what you have and is real and wait and see what actually shows up this fall.

I like the Nexus 6P for its front speakers, compatibility with Project Fi and all US networks, and first in line updates of Android and beta program.
The thing that holds me back is that it is not fully "Daydream" compatible according to Google.
I am looking for a new daily driver Android phone that I can use for years, not months.

Those are a lot of the reasons that I like the 6P too. I can understand wanting a phone that will last years. I think the 6P can do that but it sounds like Daydream is a concern for you so I would definitely get the new Nexus in the fall if it checks all the other boxes for you.

I would still keep the 6P now though. I assume you need a phone now as well. Unless you have something else that does the job for you, I would keep the 6P and sell it when the new Nexus comes out. That's just my two cents.

I completely agree with you. I went from my old Nexus 6 ,to the 6p. Love it. The battery live coupled with the narrower screen, and android N (Nougat) beta 4 software is perfect. extreme doze along with all of the other features is awesome! the dual front stereo speakers, excellent build quality, etc make the 6P A fantastic phone!

There is nothing compelling about the upcoming phones. The only improvement is the processor, but the 6P's is fast enough. The place where the 6P is way ahead of the new phones are the speakers, stereo front facing in the 6P, mono down facing in the HTCs. The 6P's speakers were a giant step forward from the earlier Nexii, I don't see why that was thrown away in the 2016 phones. I'm waiting for 2017 before I replace my 6P. EOL on a Nexus phone is when it doesn't get the latest version of Android. The 6P is going to get Oreo so it will be good through 2018. I bought my 6P the first week it came out so my battery will be 2 years old when the 2017s come out which is why I'll do a 2017 upgrade. Your 6P is new so you could wait for 2018.

I'd say it is a "risk" to wait for the new phones, though it isn't likely much of one -- other than you won't have a new phone for about 4 months (Nexus typically are shipped end of October/beginning of November). The risk is that the new Nexus phones may not be as "good," say more like a Nexus 6 than a 6P and that they still may not be fully Daydream capable. We likely won't really know this until, at a minimum, at the Nexus launch event, and even possibly when the first units are reviewed in October.

Now I put "risk" in quotes because likely you'll still be able to buy the 6P in October/November, and likely at discounted rates -- though likely not directly from Google or Project Fi. But, again, you'll have waited an additional 3-4 months before getting your new phone.
