Advice - Google Voice or not?

I'm currently a BlackBerry user and I'll be switching to the HTC EVO next week. There are some good reasons why I might not want to port my phone number to the new phone (I'm also switching jobs and too many people at the old job have my phone number). I have a Google Voice number but haven't used it much, and I'm trying to figure out what to do with the new phone. If I could port my existing phone number to be a Google number, then I could set up call blocking in Google Voice but you can't port a number to Google Voice yet.

So...some question:
1) How good/reliable is Google Voice?
2) What are the downsides of using Google Voice?
3) Is the use of Google Voice pretty wide spread here?

I don't want to publish a phone number that doesn't work well. I'd appreciate any advice or thoughts...should I publish my Google Voice number instead of the phone's actual number? Thanks.

Very reliable in my experience. I've used it for all calls for nearly half a year now.

What are the downsides of using Google Voice?
That's a highly subjective question. You'd have to compare your needs/wants to what GV offers. I don't see any downsides. YMMV. GV doesn't support MMS and that's a dealbreaker for some, as an example. I don't use MMS so it doesn't matter to me.

That's your judgment call to make.
