Advice needed on LG mobile signal

Hello

Could not find a thread on this subject so thought I would ask here. I have used and HTC One X for the last while and have been perfectly happy with it. I have just renewed my contract and was issued a Samsung S4 I9505 which is a nice phone.

The problem is the S4 seems to have a much poorer antenna and where I have always had signal before, I am finding I have no service in many places. Once I put a protective case on, it killed the phone completely. After speaking to Vodafone they have offered me a G3 or an M8.

How does the reception on a G3 compare to other mobiles or does anyone know of a comparison site that will tell me. I am tempted with the G3, know full well that HTC mobiles normally have excellent reception, so would appreciate any assistance.

Thanks in advance

Neil

Welcome to AC and the G3 forum.☺

Some users have found that the G3 has a weaker radio than some other phones. In my own case the difference is small and since I live in an area of good 4/5 bar signal, unimportant. But to illustrate the difference: recent temporary network problems showed as one tiny little speck of a bar on my Lumia 1020 and Nexus 5, and nought bars on my G3.
Superb device overall though.

Belodion is correct. There seems to be a variety of data supporting both a stronger signal, and those believing their signal strength is weaker.

I came from the S4 and was disgusted with both its reception and battery life. As an engineer, I tend to sometimes go overboard researching a product, but this is what I discovered:

dBm, at the Verizon store I use, and testing the G3 reception, indicated stronger signal on the G3 over the entire Samsung line. The variation was about 10 dBm. Next to the HTC One M8 the signal strength was a negligible difference. Comparing it against Motorola, I was pleasantly surprised to see the G3 achieving the same dBm. No iPhone comparison.

At my parents house, my S4 would stay exclusively on 3G. The G3 gets 4G in two rooms; something Samsung never was able to do.

Your replacement choices have both received great reviews, so I'm not going to say the G3 is better because I own it, but I will say the G3 has been nothing short of a pleasure. You won't regret the experience the G3 will offer.

I came from s4 active to now LG g3 and can't stand the reception issues with signal and the internet. 4glte to 3g to nothing even when full signal. From full signal to no service at all in the same location. Won't load pages even when 4glte/full signal or even on WiFi. Won't send text like it should etc. Att opened a case to find nothing wrong with connection etc now Gotta go try new SIM tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be do e with this and get a New brand phone. Also uses internet like crazy even without using web.

I had a note 3 that I loved but after months of horrible reception I sold it when the G3 was released for Verizon. Since then I haven't had a single reception issue.

I had a moto x and moved to three HTC one m8. Returned it after 2 weeks for erratic signal. I now have the G3 and it's much better on reception. My wife had a Moto x and I'm sitting right beside her and the moto x is only -2dbs better than the G3. I pretty much have signal if she does. I also live in a fringe area.

Att told me the signal issues are from the last Google update. Said att should have the next update by first week in November and will fix the problem. At least what I'm dealing with on my g3

Thank you everyone, after confirming with Vodafone that I will go with the G3, they are out of stock :) Very useful information which I appreciate you taking the time to share.

All the best
