Advice on Camera Settings

I went to an amusement park over the weekend...the pictures I took outside in sunlight came out pretty awful...lots of dithering all over the place.

I had it on auto, 5mp.

I messed with it this morning and found out that the "night" setting dramatically improves indoor shots. Anyone have any advice? What settings have you found that work best?

Did you make sure the lens was clear?

My XT works great...
