Do you always have to delete data from Gmail to get it to sync properly again? I do it habitually but I don't know if it is always necessary and it is kind of a pita.

Not always. Usually depends on how old the nandroid is I've found.
Keep in mind, you're reverting back to an older data image, so it doesn't surprise if the sync status gets a bit out of whack. At least it's not too difficult to fix.

That's amazing to me. I have to do it every time. Today I tested a rom I knew I wasn't keeping so I never even installed gmail. I was back to regular rom in 3 hours and my gmail still wouldn't send - only receive. I have several settings and a sig I need to do in EACH gmail account. If I don't they receive email but wont send.
Have u ever tried to send a gmail right after a restore?

I don't know if I've ever tried to send *right* after a restore, but I've definitely restored a nandroid within a few hours to a day or so of creating it and had no issues with GMail. I've also had to do the whole delete data and re-setup as well...and I also have multiple accounts. PITA, yes, but a necessary evil sometimes.
I'm with you, I jump from backup to backup without issue, I just restore and go also.. Have anyone tried to use Titanium and backup Gmail settings and see if that works?
That's a thought. I'll try it. I get a lot of emails I need to reply to so waiting a few hours to see IF gmail can send isn't really a viable option. I don't see why a data restore wouldn't work if it is from the same rom though. Its funny it always GETS email just wont send. My hotmail and outlook email accounts are fine and work right away.
