After a year, Face Unlock is outdated in Wallet?

Has anyone else gotten this message:



Now I admit this hasn't interfered with how I use Wallet as I always verify with my fingerprint, and I may be over reacting, but this strikes me as a very Apple-like move! Will Google start gimping my 9 Pro XL further to try and make me upgrade to the 10?
