I've had many iPhones and smartphones. Only rooting 2 of them and my thunderbolt being the second one. All I'm looking for is more battery life and a phone that doesn't lock up or pause for 30 sec and then all of a sudden do like the last 7 things you just pressed. I know you got kernels and rom's but would just taking bloat off be all I need.

are you saying i don't need to take out the bloat, that the rom will do it? I went ahead and bloated it, but if I need to put it back I can then back it up the get a rom.

Just do a backup and then follow the guide posted above to flash a rom. Dont worry about the bloat adding it or removing it. And your correct each rom has a listof apps and majority have all bloat removed.

This thread gave me an Idea... Startin a thread for Noobs... with all of these links... A "how to" from start to finish... that would be awesome, an all in one stop n shop for all things for a first time android rooter :)

all three of those posts are great, this is why i really love this website, hands down the best and most helpful people... for real!!!

There is a stickied post on how to just removed the bloated software if that's all you want, but to answer your question, yes, different software will be included and/or removed from different ROM versions. I believe there is even a stock ROM out there that you can install just to get yourself back to where your started from (but why would you want to do that?!? :) )

After I install a new ROM, how do I get my purchased apps back, or any installed app for that matter?

Most of the time, once you've run through the initial device setup, the Market will auto-magically begin downloading and installing all of your apps for you!

You'll probably also want to do backup before you begin so you can restore non-market apps and app data.

This guide that I put together should answer your questions:
