After the OTA Nougat upgrade..

Ok, here are a few more things I'm noticing. But I can't really recall if I had any of these were issues prior to OOS 4.0 or not except for #3.

1) Adaptive brightness seems unreliable. I often times have to toggle it off, then back on to get it to respond... most noticeable as the sun goes down but the screen stays bright... way too bright.

2) I just picked up a refurb'd Pebble Time Steel to replace my Pebble Steel. I use Timely as my alarm clock. I used to get a soft buzz on the wrist when Timely would go off. I'm not getting any Timely alarm on the PTS for some reason. And I can't remember if I had that prior to getting the PTS (IE, after upgrading to OOS 4.0), or if that began after the upgrade to Nougat but before I picked up the PTS. I guess I could drag out the PS and pair it again with my phone and try an alarm, but I've already got it packed away so thought this might be a quicker source for a response. OK, so I'm lazy.

3) ongoing problem/issue (since I got my OP3): my FPS is unreliable unless I put the whirl of my thumb over the FPS. But putting that much thumb on the FPS often triggers my phone app (just above the FPS). I've gone as far as recording my thumb for all 5 slots. Initially, the thumb is very reliable, but as time goes on, it becomes less and less accurate until only putting the meat of my thumb over the FPS causes it to register. This has not improved with OOS 4.0.1.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

I noticed something new last night on a long ride home from a school event. I enabled my hotspot on my phone so I could watch a basketball game on WatchESPN. The hotspot would kick off every few minutes. I've never seen it do that before. To restore my video feed, I had to go back to my OP3 and turn the hotspot back on, then go to settings on my iPad Pro and have it connect to the hotspot.

That function is normally automatic when I enable the hotspot. But for some reason, I kept having to repeat the entire process (re-enable hotspot, make the iPad connect) until I finally gave up. The connection would last for 5 minutes or so before the hotspot would die.

This is odd behavior since I often leave the hotspot up for an hour or two at a time in certain scenarios and have never seen it do this before.

I'm inching closer to the FDR event. :-}

I saw someone else complaining about this on Reddit (unless that was you, too). Let us know if an FDR helps this out. This is something that I'd definitely like to work as intended!

I don't think I posted about this on Reddit, but if I did, it would be under this same user name.

I had another oddity yesterday... so far, a one-off experience. I could not answer an inbound call. I swiped the screen to the answer icon, but it would not pick up. I had to cancel the call from my Pebble Time Steel instead. Then call the caller back.

Yes, I'm inching closer to that fabled fixer-of-all-weirdness FDR option. :D

I'm sorry to be stupid, I'm not having any problems with the Nougat update, but can you tell me what the FDR option is?

Thanks!

My phone is working flawless on Nougat EXCEPT for when I get a voicemail. For whatever reason if I get a voicemail the phone app just bricks. Force stopping it or rebooting the device does not help. You just have to wait it out and it starts working again after a few hours. You can still receive calls just fine at least.

Have you wiped the system cache yet? Done a FDR?

Anyone use wired headphones with inline mic? Since nougat I can use the mic button to answer calls but hangup doesn't work.

I've been having a few issues with an app (GSAM), so I decided to bite the bullet and did a FDR tonight. Now I'm on f2fs (can't tell any difference) and will be busy for a few days reinstalling, tweaking, etc. all my apps and connections. Yay.

I knew I was going to do this eventually. But it sure is a pain in the butt re-installing, setting up, and tweaking all my apps. In spite of my notes, there is stuff I simply don't remember. I'll eventually adjust. ;)

I am not sure what problems you were having with GSAM, but it does not work right with Nougat (on any phone). It is a Nougat issue, rather than a OnePlus issue.

That's interesting. GSAM seems to be working fine for me on Nougat 7.0. Any details on the problem with GSAM?

The issue I had was that it worked fine for a while, but then started giving me the combined app usage issue. So I went back in and used ADB to give it permissions under enable more stats, but it got to where it would not split the apps out and would only report combined app battery usage.

After the FDR, it seems to be working as expected.

However, the next morning after I did the FDR/conversion to f2fs, I learned that 4.0.3 was just released. Go figure. So I snagged that, updated, wiped the system cache and began the tedious process of starting all over with my apps, tweaks, etc.

On a negative note, at some point I found that my hotspot won't stay up but for a few minutes at a time and my gestures didn't work. A reboot fixed the gestures, but the hotspot remains a problem (that I didn't have before).

So pending what I learn about the hotspot issue, I may have to do another FDR in hopes of restoring the hotspot to normal ops. And I do use the hotspot from time to time.

Hmm. For several days after my FDR and setting up the phone as new... not to mention doing the 4.0.3 OTA and wiping the system cache, GSAM was running fine and showing the battery usage by process. All of a sudden, it came up with the combined CPU message instead of breaking down the battery usage by process. It told me to (again) go into settings/more and enable more stats via ADB.

So today, I prepare to ADB more settings again... only to find that the issue had somehow resolved itself. I have to wonder how long this will last. As an interesting aside, while the screen was off, I switched the slider to the silent position. Later, when I woke it up, I had to choose which home app to use, Nova or OP. That was a little weird, given I have a fresh FDR within the past week. But everything seems normal otherwise.

I emailed the developer and inquired about the GSAM issue. But no reply yet.

I'm tempted to FDR again and either install from the zip... or go with a CB, or maybe even Lineage... but that would take me off the official upgrade path.

Hmm. Might have to PM ironass and seek his opinion on that course of action. ;)

I thought it was a Nougat issue that did not allow the app use to be broken down beyond the combined use. Now, I have not rooted or tried to do anything other than use it straight from the store and it has never worked, so I stopped trying. Let me know what you find out because I always liked using it in MM. INN, I usually just check battery use through the battery app. I use Transparent Weather Widget and it shows battery percentage and goes directly to system battery use when I tough the battery percentage on the widget.

GSAM Pro is back working normally for me. I don't know if it will last. Time will tell.
I'm not rooted either and there's a simple process to ADB the changes needed to split the combined CPU report into separate processes.

Go to the menu on the bottom right corner, press more and choose enable more stats and it will guide you through the process.

Edit: here's a screen shot after ADB'ing the select more stats option:
