Alarm notifications no longer have dismiss option?

It's a stock nexus 5, not rooted. I haven't had dismissible alarm notifications for quite some time now.

I have been having this problem intermittently on BOTH my Nexus 5 phone and on my 2012 Nexus 7 tablet. Both run Android 4.4.2. One thing I have noticed is that whatever happens with this feature occurs on both at the same time, which suggests that it is something that is not phone specific but [maybe] something that comes from Google, like an update to one or more of their apps, or maybe some some non-Google app that I happen to have on both my phone and my tablet (the app sets are similar but not identical. I have had this function stop working for a while, then start working on both devices for a while, then stop working again. Right now and for the past week or two the feature does NOT work and it is driving me nuts, as I have gotten used to using this feature all the time.

If anyone has a solution to this, please post it, as the lack of this useful feature has become a big inconvenience.

I was going to load my phone with the factory restore tonight to see if this issue and the dialer not showing the keyboard issue could be corrected. Both annoying but not a show stopper.

Yes, exactly. They have been there, I got used them avidly, then they disappeared, days or weeks later reappeared, now have disappeared again. I have no idea what's causing it, but I wish that I (or someone) could figure it out.

After doing a factory restore on the nexus 5 my alarm dismissals still aren't working. There must be some conflict and I can't help but think lightflow has something to do with it.

At least my phone dial pad works every time now.

FWIW, I don't use Lightflow, so at least in my case, it must be something else.

Just found this thread while I was looking for something else. Are we sure this is a 4.4.x issue? I got a new GS4Active about 2 months ago (so it was on 4.3) and I have never had dismissable notifications. I now have 4.4.2 and still don't have them. I thought it was odd since my old GNex which had 4.2.2 did have them & now a newer device with a newer OS doesn't.

Ok. I found the answer, although it's not really a good thing.....

Reading the comments on this article The KitKat Clock app has a subtle but impressive feature | Android Central a user Impulses mentions that Samsung, HTC, etc. replace the stock clock app with their own flavor.

It definitely does NOT look like mine (thanks alot Samsung :-\). They also offer up the .apk for you to download!

I have a stock (not rooted) Nexus 5 and I have had this problem on and off for quite a while now. See my previous post on this subject. It tends to come and go -- last week it worked fine every day; starting yesterday it did not work. It seems that the dismiss option, when it works, doesn't become active until shortly before the set alarm time; how long, I don't know, maybe 1-2 hours. I don't have a big enough sample to be sure. I have an unsupported theory that the problem may come after Google updates one or more of the built-in apps, but I'm not at all sure of this, nor am I sure what happens to allow it to start working again.

For me, it's a valuable feature and I get annoyed and feel helpless when it stops working. I can only hope that Android 4.4.3 may contain a fix for this problem.

Possible conflict with Lux? I disabled Lux recently and noticed I have the dismiss option for the first time in months.

I have a bunch of other persistent notifications but none with buttons on them. Maybe there is something about all the functionality crammed in on the Lux notification that interferes with the Lux notification?

Possibly any complex persistent notification will break the alarm dismissal?

FWIW, I don't use Lux. Right now, the alarm dismiss now option, which had been mostly available recently, has been missing for more than a week. My working speculation is that its disappearance and reappearance has something to do with automatic updates to the core Google apps that came with my stock Nexus 5. I haven't kept track, but the change in alarm behavior seems to follow such updates. I'll note again that the same behavior always occurs simultaneously on BOTH my Nexus 5 phone and my 2012 Nexus 7 tablet. Both use Android 4.4.2. My alarms are set the same on both devices: daily alarms with the same label, five minutes apart. So ... whatever happens is apparently not unique to apps unique to one device or the other. The common thread I can see is from Google-supplied updates, though it is possible, I suppose, that it could come from my corporate e-mail accounts, which are also identically installed on both devices.

Whatever, it is a HUGE nuisance, and I wish that someone from Google would take note of this problem and help track down the cause and resolve it. As it is, we can't depend on the alarm dismiss function working reliably.

For me it was definitely Lux. I am seeing action buttons on notifications I haven't seen or haven't seen in a long time. Calls now have a hang up option, maps has a cancel navigation button etc.

If you are still having trouble is there any other persistent notification in the list that has an action button? Maybe there can only be one at a time?

The notifications I'm seeing that are missing the action button when Lux is active can have their action button "uncovered" by pulling down on the notification. There's haptic feedback when you pull down on it even though I have haptic turned off everywhere I can find it.

This action certainly isn't very discoverable, is it?

Your comments are right on target, as is the suggestion by Lux. It works!. Thanks so much for figuring out that the Dismiss Now message can be displayed and invokes by pressing and holding the Upcoming Alarm menu and using a pull down gesture. This seems usually to work for me, but in a few instances it simply has not worked, I have no idea why. Still, it's way better than not having the dismiss option at all. One new nuisance that seems to accompany the manual uncovering of the Dismiss Now option: I am also getting an App Info message that I don't want or need, sometimes overlapping the Dismiss Now drop down. Not a deal breaker, but a small nuisance. One thing I inadvertently did while trying to drop down to the Dismiss Now option: I must have accidentally swiped to the left or done something that took the alarm reminder totally off my screen. When that happens, do you any way to get it back? I tried the main previous screen icon the the bottom of the screen, but that didn't work.

I think you are searching for the swipe down gesture to uncover, don't tap and hold just swipe down.

The other notification actions I do know about are a press and hold to get a dialog box regarding app info. This is especially useful if you don't know where a notification came from and I know this came to be from apps throwing up notification spam, now you can track which app is responsible for a particular notification and blame the right app if you don't want it.

Swiping left or right does dismiss the notification, and you are correct that unfortunately there is no undo. I don't think I'd want two actions to get rid of a notification, that'd be annoying.

Also I know about the dismiss all button.

Are there any more things that can be done with notifications?
