Alarm notifications.

My daughter is using a replacement launcher but still using the stock alarm clock.

If you were to switch to a third party alarm like "alarm clock plus" you'd most likely lose the notification.

It happens on a Nexus, so it's what you might call a "stock Android" feature. Other phones may not have it by virtue of the manufacturer's customization of the UI.

Nova doesn't change it. I've had this feature for years now using the standard clock app. Brand of phone doesn't matter. I would try 3rd party app like others have suggested.

I get alarm notification on my Droid Turbo, always have. They are baked in. No noise or vibration, just a menu item saying, "You have an alarm coming up. Still need it?"

bump

has anyone solved this? this is my first V20 but coming from a V10 i did not have this notification and would very much like to disable it.

to restate the problem: when you set an alarm using the stock clock you get an alarm clock in your notification bar with an exclamation point (i thought it meant i missed my alarm). opening the notifications reveals a warning that you have an upcoming alarm. can i disable this "feature"?

thank you!!!

Not sure why everyone is using the OEM clock/alarm app. Part of the beauty of Android is the ability to customize. (If I didn't want to "make the phone mine", I'd have an iPhone.) I've used Timely on both my Nexus 6P and now my G6. It works perfectly. No early notifications and you can set multiple alarms and set them for multiple days. I can't remember if there was a fee but if so, it was small and worth it.

Well for me the stock does what i need it to do although on some phone I would download a different clock

I'm glad it works for you but it obviously doesn't work for many according to the posts in this thread. No matter, one of the big attractions of Android is the ability to customize just about everything and one of the reasons why vanilla Android is so popular. Nexus/Pixel phones sell like hotcakes because they come with a fairly pure version of Android that can be customized to look & act exactly like the user wants/needs. The stock clock might well be good for you but it's meant as a generic app as phone manufacturers know that most will download whichever clock/alarm app suits them the best.

Wasn't contesting it

for something as basic as an alarm clock i don't want to have to introduce another app into the mix. but i will check out timely. thank you!

also i agree that personalization/customization is the advantage and curse of android.

An alarm clock is simple but it's also a necessity. If you have one that either doesn't work or doesn't work well, you might as well not have one.

Timely hasn't been updated in a few years but it doesn't need any updates. One of the problems I've always had with the built-in alarm/clock apps (both on Android and on iOS on my iPad) has been dimming. Most built-in apps feel like a flash light is on, even when dimmed. Timely has a night mode that dims the screen well while still being able to see the time.

I don't work for the Timely people. I don't care what alarm app anyone uses. I just like this one. I like it well enough to have had it on 3 different phones and my iPad.

I DO get the upcoming alarm notification with Timely (just tested it). I find it quite useful and can't really comprehend wanting to be rid of it, but everyone is different. There might be some other 3rd party alarm app that doesn't use it or that makes it optional - I switched to Timely way back and never had a need to try anything else.

But anyway, with any 3rd part alarm app, you will be able to go into settings -> apps -> (app name) -> notifications and block all notifications. You can't do that (at least on my phone) with the built-in clock app. Doing this will eliminate any other useful notifications the app has but they probably wouldn't be critical to the functioning of the app.

You said it perfectly!!! I don't need a pre-alarm notification! I find this highly irritating and I can't find anyway to stop it. So I had to download a 3rd party alarm clock app w/ ads as a work-around... Just switched from Samsung device and this is not a good first impression of LG...

The reason for that is that Timely properly registers its alarms with the system... properly registered alarms receive special handling by Android. If you have a third party alarm app that DOESN'T properly register, don't be surprised if you oversleep... Android will suppress the app as part of its usual power saving features, including the app's improperly created alarms.

Also, if you have an alarm app and you don't see the little alarm clock status icon when an alarm is set, it's not a proper alarm.

I'm with you... I've seen the notification on my G6 as well, doesn't bother me at all, in fact, I found it somewhat useful on a few occasions where I didn't want an alarm that had been set to go off.
