Alarm stopped and Quiet Mode won't end

I'm on Verizon. Got an update a few weeks back and then my phone has had all kinds of problems (heating up, unresponsive, battery use, Quiet Mode comes on when scheduled but won't turn off when scheduled and my alarm clock (Gentle Alarm) stopped working). I've rebooted and then QM turns off. I've battery pulled. Was hoping to avoid a factory reset. Any suggestions?
 
I'm afraid it does sound to me like something that calls for a Factory Reset. What was the update?
