Alcatel joy tab WONT UPDATE

[Android Central Question]

These tablets were given away or $$cheap buy t mobile n metro pcs.can they or so they have the right too not allowed updates to devices I own and paid for.it even bought there Rev vl 6 and it won't update either.All Alcatel n htc devices I bought since 2021 won't update OS.all other apps are good if I do it manually.can i unblock partitions? Delete or change admin? Or just ROOT the darn things??

Welcome to Android Central! Budget devices are lucky to get even one official update -- that's part of the reason they're so cheap. It doesn't have to do with their "rights" -- it's a matter of economics and commitment on the part of the manufacturer. Some manufacturers do a poor job of updating even their flagship devices (like Lenovo/Motorola). If you want a device that gets regular official updates for at least 3-4 years, stick with Google or Samsung devices.

You'd have to see if anyone has developed a custom ROM for your specific device. The forums at XDA-Developers.com is a better resource for that kind of thing.

The update has to actually be compiled for the hardware by the manufacturers software team. Like B.Diddy says, that's one of the ways they keep costs down. No support, no expense=cheep.
