Let's face it, she kind of takes on a personality and you stop looking at her as "The Echo" and really think of her as Alexa. With that said - this thing is freaking great! Recently I've really started to utilize the shopping list. I have the Echo app on me and my wife's phones and it's great to be able to simply say "Alexa, add milk (or whatnot) to my shopping list." I find myself thinking (man, I really need to get X the next time I'm at the store... oh yeah) "Alexa, add X to my shopping list." Done. Last night I was watching TV and thought of something I needed to do at work, so I just called on my Echo "Alexa, add X to my to-do list." - "I have added X to you to-do list."
She understands about 95% of everything everyone in my house says to her - Ages 5 - 38.
On a side comment, my wife isn't a big tech person, but within a day of having Alexa in the house my wife commented "That thing is mine, right?" Well, it's for everyone in the house, but if you want it to be yours, sure.
