All 3D's not created equal

So the evo 3d is having light leakage and the glass is raised just like the original evo or im i miss reading something:(

I see you wrote the second phone got really hot.

My 3D gets pretty warm, especially when doing things like video and multitasking. My EVO 4G got hot with 4G on, but nothing too extreme. I figured it is getting warm because of the two cores? I did have crappy coverage when I was streaming. I've been using it and it hasn't got that warm again.

Anyone else notice warmth happening when they use the phone, mostly toward the top of the phone?

WCM

Yep, same here, right around the camera housing.

Yea, 0002. And both had the updates as well. I feel like the vibration got slightly better on the 2nd one after the update, but still noticeably dull compared to my first one. This is the biggest killer for me I guess. The screen color differences I would only notice while holding them next to each other and since I only need to decide to keep one of the two, this won't be a problem.

How do you check what harware version you have?

Same thing happened to me. 1st was great all around, expect dead pixel and a bit of light leakage.. 2nd one had raised bevel/edge... The heptic feedback isn't as good and there's what looks like a pin hole between the home and menu buttons that light bleeds through. Even with the issues, no dead pixels and battery life is much better then the 1st... After 14 hrs of light usage, I'm still at 80%... I'll keep it.... That is unless they don't unlock the bootloader or at least announce a date with in my 30 day return period.

My first also has that very tiny pin hole of light leakage between the home and menu buttons. And had issues with not being able to restart or turn off properly.

My second also had the pin hole of light leakage but I have not encountered my issues with reboots. The haptic feedback does seem different than my first, like a little bitter weaker..but this is a good thing because the haptic feedback on the first was almost too loud. I keep this one I believe since there appears to be no major issues. Afraid to keep playing this game, trying to find an absolute perfect one.

I've noticed that mine has some inconsistent looking glue on the bezel of the screen.

Wondering if they would give me a new one for this defect?

I would talk to them about it, it could cause problems down the road. If you dropped it, the glue could put pressure in a specific spot and crack the screen easily; that's how a lot of iPods get cracked, because the metal bezel gets bent on impact and it cracks the glass.

Yeah sure they will swap it out for a new one, but if you don't feel like going in for something that could be viewed as trivial, just claim you are having other issues with the phone, like freeze-ups, or random restarts, or something software related.

I just swapped out my first one due to people complaining about me sounding like I had a pillow over the phone when I was talking to them. Also kept getting a cellular interface shortage box popping up. I think it was just a bad phone because this one feels so much smoother and faster. just didn't notice due to even a defective 3d being so much faster than my old EVO. Screens also brighter and the speaker is a lot louder, now I can hear it ring. This ones a keeper.

Remember that out of Every (let's say) ten devices made..two might be in some way defective. That's with anything man-made. This shouldn't differ anyone from purchasing such device. The EVO 3d is an Amazing phone, and one should just take time to appreciate such a device.

I would be very alarmed with a 20% fail rate on a device. I understand there will be defects but 20% is too high to ignore. I would like to see some appropriate figures on returns due to manufacturing defects.

True 20% failure rate is unacceptable for any business in the long run.

I was interested in checking this phone out but you guys scare me lol. But in all seriousness. Are you guys happy with the 3D or is it gimmicky. nd those that have seemingly defective units.are you happy? Assuming you got yourselves a fresh unit.

Took some pics of the difference in colors in the screen. Dunno how obvious it will be to you all in pictures. Which screen do you think looks better? The one on the left is the new one that IRL looks a tad yellower.

First pic you can see the difference in the blacks on the launcher.
All pics were taken with full brightness.

Also, here are pics of my 3D (the one on the right in pics above) with my launch day EVO.

I was reading a comparison review of the super lcd vs retina display & super amoled plus, they liked the super lcd as much as the super amoled plus because the qHD's screen resolution& sharpness, also something about the colors being true than the amoled plus.but in the review the slcd had a yellow tint also & pointed this out as a natural sled defect, just as the amoled plus has slight blue tint to the whites (i think it was a bluish tint) but the point is that yes it is a defect on the slcd's to have the yellow tint on white's like the one on the review & your EVO3D, but not all of them have it so It's not a "natural defect of sled screens" my EVO3D doesn't have this problem & realized they were wrong about that statement when i read your post. In the review the retina display came 1st place & both amoled+ & slcd came second.

I myself was pleasantly surprised by how nice the 3D effect is.... I have shown it to about 10 people from work and a couple of family members and everyone is amazed by it!

I didn't get this phone for the 3d, but now that I have it I love it. It is way better than I expected it to be. Plus the greatly improved battery life (Over an Evo 4g), the screen clarity and crispness(is that a word?), the speed of the dual core processor, go ahead and make the switch, you won't be disapointed.

Everything on my phone works perfect and I love it but the 2d to 3d switch is loose is everyone's like that or should I get it replaced?

How loose are you talking about? My switch jiggles if I shake the phone a bit, but I can tell that the switch is solid, clicks right into place every time. I have no worries about it breaking or anything, I think it's just how it's assembled.

Ya basically the same as you're talking about I just wasn't sure if that's the way its suppose to be or not.

For those of you that said that your second one felt faster, faster how? The homescreen transition animation is smoother, kind of like the comparison between the Sensation and the 3d that Phil did? Or did apps load faster, etc.. etc..

A lot of people said that the type and amount of widgets coupled with what wallpaper you're running makes all the difference in the world when it comes to smoothness of homescreen transitions, so, for those that said the second phone was faster, is that with the homescreens populated with the same stuff and the same wallpaper running? Can you fill up each homescreen with huge HTC widgets and run a demanding live wallpaper without the animation slowing down?

So my friend showed me this thread today after having 2 defective Evo 3D's, with the 3rd one coming tmw. I have the backlight flooding issue on both units and after pointing it out to my friends, it turns out all of them have it lol. I'm disappointed HTC. after being a proud evo 4g owner for a year, I figure the 3D would blow me away but so far I'd have to say there are more 3D "build quality" issues (in a cpl days) than I've experienced w the evo 4G in a year. The other issues I've experienced include homepage swipe lag (it turns but keeps going back to the same homescreen repeatedly anywhere from 5-10 times), and rear speaker distortion. Some might say I'm being too picky but honestly I only get the top of the line phones from Sprint so quality is a must. I purchase the best so I expect the best. 2 Lemons in a row. I'm pretty sure #3 will have the same issues....

Aside from that, I haven't even really gotten a chance to play with the phone really but from what I've heard, some friends are experiencing cam lag. I'm contemplating whether I should just wait for the Samsung Galaxy S II haha I'm too HTC brand loyal to jump ship for wack samsung. Why can't there be less issues. Well i guess nothing can compare to the HTC TP2....
