Question All apps open minimized[solved]

I have a newish Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ with Android 14. All the apps open minimized, even if I have maximized them before closing prior. I can't find any mention of this problem with a search. Not do I see a setting to control it.

I have no special apps or settings on this device. My older Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 with Android 13 does not act this way.

Any suggestions on how I can configure it to open all apps maximized? Thank you.

Welcome to Android Central! Go to Settings>Advanced Features>Labs and make sure "Multi window for all apps" is turned off.

The "Multi window for all apps" is not checked. Just to be sure, I just checked and unchecked it - no difference.

Here is a screenshot. You can see Gmail and Youtube open in minimized windows, which is how all the apps open initially.

Yeah, this is not a screenshot, but rather a pic of the screen. Screenshot doesn't work well either. It will only make a video of the screen, and then the result is not even correct. In case you're wondering, I ain't a newb. Worked in tech for 15 years, tho years before Android. I've owned a series of these Samsung tablets for the past ten years. My older one doesn't have these glitches. Of course, I could reinstall the OS, but that will take hours of work setting this tablet up again....

Hmm, I think I found the answer -- it's an odd location for the setting. Go to Settings>Notifications>Advanced Settings>Floating Notifications and make sure "Smart pop-up view" is not selected.

Thanks. I found this and the Smart Pop-up View is not selected. It is set as Bubbles. I turned off this feature completely and it made no difference.

I don't think this is a problem of notifications. It occurs when I start an app not already running in the background. The app opens as minimized. Shoulda mentioned that I also checked the settings for an app [my test is Gmail] and see nothing related.

This is weird, because the behavior you're describing is definitely multi-window and/or Smart Pop-up View.

This is a strange behavior that only happens when opening any app.

Try these

1. Like mentioned above safe mode to see if anything you downloaded causing this.
2. I setting>advanced features>
You have 2 places where multi windows is
A. Labs
B. Multi windows
Both places are off ?

If still happening after above , go to settings>apps>upper right corner tap>reset app preference

Tried Safe Mode - no difference.

Multiwindows settings are Off

Reset App preferences - made no difference. I see the preferences were reset because my Calendar widget disappeared and I got a prompt for notifications, but the apps still open minimized.

Time to wave a rubber chicken?

You can send feedback to Samsung directly in the Samsung Members app, and also post about this in the Samsung community to see if anyone there has any input.

Do you have Dex mode enabled?

Pull your notification panel all the way down you should see like a circle that says Dex enable tap it to disable to get back in tablet mode

Never thought of it because I have no use for Dex mode.

FYI, if you look through the thread, you'll see that the OP had already tried that. It was an issue with Dex.
