All my pictures are uploading the same exact, corrupt photo

I use the camera on my Samsung Galaxy S4, and over the holiday, I went to look at my Christmas photos to find that they all 'open' as the same one photo that is wonky. Like, you can tell that photo is jacked. But the odd thing is, in the gallery I can (for a split second at least) SEE the actual photo as a thumbnail. In the gallery, if I try to scroll through the pictures, they all revert to the one messed up photo. I connected my phone to my laptop and moved them to my external hard drive. It's the same deal-- I can see the thumbnail but as soon as I try to open it, it open up as the bad photo. I'm guessing corrupt file-- but how come I can 'sometimes' see the actual photo? Even when I open it, for a split second I see the picture I took before it turns over. I don't know anything about tools for fixing this, so I may need to ask additional questions, but thank in advance!

Welcome to Android Central! Were the photos originally saved to the phone's internal storage or to a microSD card?

Thank you very much-- I will try this today. My only other question is-- what if I've already moved the pictures from my sdcard to laptop and from the laptop the pictures are messed up? Are those pictures a lost cause or can I "fix" those using chkdsk?

How did you move the pictures from the SD card to the laptop? Was it via USB connection to the phone? If so, it's still worth inserting the card directly into the computer and seeing if it reads the photo correctly that way.

I don't know if chkdsk can actually fix those photos. You could try a program like PhotoRec.
