Google offers a subscription to their AI and their website says the first year is included with a Pixel 10 XL purchase. Does that mean the AI features that the Pixel has will need a subscription to continue usage after the year is up? Or is the Google AI subscription something extra that "standard" AI users may not need?

Asking as I am considering switching from the lackluster Apple AI... I mostly use Siri for navigation, music control, calls and texting. Rarely for web searches etc as it isn't very user friendly.

Do you have the Pixel 10 currently or are you asking before buying?

On my Samsung under Gemini Settings it says $19.99 a month with 1 month free or if you're feeling extra you can go for the Ultra access for $124.99 a month for 3 months then it goes up to $249.99 a month.

From everything I've heard none of this goes into effect until the end of this year or the beginning of the next. However it plays out, I pay enough for the phone service and frankly both of those numbers are ridiculous basically for nothing. Well, nothing I need anyway.

I did a Google search and asked when will Pixel 10 users be expected to pay for AI features and Gemini says, after their free year. So, it sounds like you get a year from purchase, because surely if I buy in April and you buy in September, you'll want your full year and not be prorated into some half year because you bought late.

Gemini
Pixel 10 Pro, Pro XL, and Pro Fold users will begin paying for Google AI Pro after their initial one-year free subscription expires. The base model Pixel 10 does not include this subscription, so users will have to pay for the premium AI features immediately.
