Unplugged this morning and used it as I normally would. This is a significant improvement with 4.4.2 after doing a complete wipe and re-install.

Note 3 here on AT&T network. Updated last week. Noticed a huge drop in battery life after the first few days.

But after a week it has calmed down. Otherwise has been flawless

Do you use your phone on Auto Brightness?

During yesterday's test I had auto brightness on for around 90 minutes or so when driving around. This profile had BT on but without streaming so my Pioneer still handles phone calls. This was determined by a profile set up with Profile Scheduler+. The rest of the time it was set to Normal profile with brightness at 240 with wifi and BT off. Other profiles I have set do use them depending if I am streaming Milk Music or if at work. So anyways, Jelly Bean had good battery life and after installing KitKat I tested for a few days and it was obvious the battery life was worse. After I wiped the device and did a complete re-install it is noticeable the improvement over Jelly Bean. I still get that unstable internet connection sometimes but not as often but it is just a message. I don't actually lose the connection. Note: The first 2 photos I captured as a screen shot from another thread since I had deleted them already and this is why they look like that.

Since the KitKat update...

* Getting worse battery life
* GPS not working on some software applications
* Tethering (which I pay for) connection is unstable


Is AT&T planning to issue a fix?

^ What steps did you do after the update ? What software applications are you having problems with as it relates to GPS ? Have you determined actual connectivity issues with the mobile hotspot or is it just that stupid message about unstable internet connection ? Being you mention you are paying for tethering does that mean you still have an unlimited data plan ? Does the connection seem throttled or does the connection drop constantly ? There are mentions of a minor update to 4.4.3 to address some battery issues but nothing at this point as it pertains to that update for any specific carriers.

One application in particular, Notification Weather, won't even detect where I am when setting it up with GPS.

Never had that problem previously.

No unlimited data plan. I pay for 4GB tethering each month (for business use). It will connect, then disconnect. I have to reconnect several times before it stabilizes. No messages.

I am not sure about Notification Weather. It is possible the developer has not updated that application yet to work correctly with 4.4.2. Does your GPS work correctly beyond that one application ? The router you are using...have you factory reset the router and reconfigured the security settings and then connected your Note 3 again ? Sometimes this fixes the connectivity issues. And most importantly have you factory reset your Note 3 and wiped the cache partition ? This step has resolved issues for several people here on the forums.

As far as tethering is concerned, it has nothing to do with the router. I am not having problems with WiFi connectivity.

You could very well be right about the fact that Notification Weather has not been updated for KitKat

I would be willing to do a factory reset -- it will be a pain in the arse -- but if need be....

How do I wipe the cache portion?

Finally, thanks so much for the help you have provided, since did I not mention that already.

You wipe the cache partition by holding the home button, power button, and volume up button at the same time when you do a regular reset. When the boot screen turns back on let go of the buttons amd you have options. Use the volume down button to scroll to wipe cache partition and select it by using the power button. Then reset. You will not lose your files. It is just an advanced way of clearing cache. I would try that first. Then of you still have issues go ahead and back up your files, etc. and bite the bullet and while I will not guarantee a factory reset will fix your issues it is very possible it will.

And after you do those things I would take the devices you connect via your Note 3's mobile tethering and remove and then re-add the passwords like it is the first time you connect those devices to it. That is all I can think of for now.

Kit Kat is working well for me and battery life with heavy use is 12 hours. I believe some apps don't play nice sometimes and this could be the root of most of the issues.

The wifi is such crap that I had to reboot my phone twice to get facebook to load. Its constantly saying my wifi is unstable. I test it says 30mbs. Pages randomly struggle to load until I go to 4g. My wifi signal is not as good as it use to be. I use to cross the street and have 2 bars. Now I get out my front door and I'm already down to 3 bars. I miss Jelly Bean. There is 3 bugs that I need fixed in kit kat majorly

I actually wiped this Note 3 and I'm noticing even better battery performance as well as some minor issues getting corrected. I would recommend anyone with a Note 3 that they reset after the Kitkat update.

^ A complete wipe of the device....aka...factory reset is what is meant. The 4.4.2 update will remain. It will not revert back to 4.3. Like several of us here we did a complete wipe of the device along with the cache partition. Then from different methods we re-installed everything to our devices. This has shown on numerous occasions to be the best thing to remedy any potential issues a major update tends to bring. It stabilizes the software, resolves any application bugs, and brings possible updates to some applications so they operate more efficiently with the new update. Everything is snappy and battery life is better than when I had 4.3 installed.

Erm... A question please on doing a factory reset in recovery mode. I've never actually done it 'cos it's messy and the card thing and battery were fine after 4 weeks on KK (4 months old).
Some GPS and some small sync issues, poor wifi still etc.

So out for a walk, I was thinking - better sd card out, and maybe sim card out, before restarting?

Also I heard Kies is now almost no help. I'm still not clear if a full Kies back up before reset, and/or Kies restore after, is going to help much, apparently it doesn't restore a lot. Just rely on your Google account etc to get back to normal with a little work; and maybe an app like Titanium.

Anyhow SD/sim in or out, or no difference. Anyone - thanks.

^ I performed a complete wipe with the SD and S.I.M card still inside the device. You have the option under backup and reset-personal data-factory reset. You do not have to wipe the SD card. But as a standard precaution always have your photos, videos, music, etc. backed up somewhere else and use the appropriate Google and Samsung accounts to have the corresponding data backed up there. As for using Kies 3 my personal experience was not trouble free. I connected my Note 3, performed a complete backup, wiped the device, and then attempted a recovery. Some 5 hours later and something like 67 percent it just stopped and closed. Not sure what happened. Plus it just seemed way too long to restore from this method. So I opened Kies 3 again and retrieved my phone, message, and a few other settings data and about an hour later successfuly restored that information. I had my Nova launcher settings restored from a backup within Nova. I then started downloading my applications one at a time again. So all in all it was around a 7 hour process to get my phone fully restored and functioning with 4.4.2. In the end I am very happy to have taken the time to do this. My battery life is better now than with 4.3. I still do get the occasional unstable internet connection message but it remains connected. My GPS has always worked flawlessly. I have AT&T.
