All of a sudden, I am having a battery problem

I have had a wonderful battery experience .... until now. I was using my extended battery, and I had the phone plugged into the charger while I was viewing a streaming video. In a couple of hours the battery went down from 70% to 49%. Then I powered the phone off and powered it on again. And the battery showed at 21% .... And gradually went down to 19%. I have the phone connected to the charger (wall charger) for more than half an hour and the battery percentage still shows 19%. I am confused? Is it the battery? Is it the charger? When I have it connected the taskbar shows "charging" icon as well as the LED shows the orange charging light.
Anyone else has had this experience?

Try plugging back your stock battery in to see if it makes any difference in charging numbers.

Are you using the oem charger? It maybe the charger is inadequate to charge the big battery and operate the phone simultaneously hence the reason you are losing ground with the battery.

Yes, I am using the OEM charger that came with the phone.

The standard battery is charging fine. I hadn't used the extended battery for a long time ..a couple of weeks.... I don't know if that was the reason. I only use the extended battery occasionally.

I now notice that occasionally, the charging stops and I have to readjust the charger... I am wondering if I damaged the micro USB port while wrestling it out of the Verizon car dock.

Been there done that. It's a delicate game of wiggle left and right while pulling up firmly while making sure you don't rip the dash mount off the window. It's quite a pain.

I have noticed that over the last two days my battery life has worsened as well. I think this may have something to do with the network, as I am not doing anything differently. My battery dropped from 100% to 40% in the course of 4 hours this morning while the phone was not being used at all and the screen was off the entire time. Very odd considering 3 days ago my battery dropped from 100% to 40% over the course of 14 hours with use.

My phone is plugged into the charger right now but even while it is charging (and with the phone not in use) the battery percentage has gone down from 65% to 59%!!!!

I have turned all syncs off or reduced them to bare minimum except for email syncs.

I wonder what brought about this drastic change in the battery performance on my phone out of the blue from yesterday.

EDIT: Now it is charging back up again, but very slowly! In the last ten minutes, it went from 59% to 61%. Earlier my phone used to recharge very quickly on wall charger.

Probably silly question, but have you tried a battery pull to see if it makes a difference?

I did and still the same. It was charging faster on my car dock as I made my way to the Verizon store. The charger worked perfectly over there. The battery level went from 62 to 74 in just 10 minutes. On my way back, I had it on car charger for 10 minutes and now I'm at 80%.

The tech support rep however suggested I stay away from using car charger as much as possible. He said using car charger could ruin the Thunderbolt battery. I had never heard that one before.

Well, I will just wait and see what happens the next couple of days.

EDIT : I haven't tried bump charging yet as I'm never at one place for 8 hours.. not even home.

Strange...I actaully have stopped using all chargers except for the OEM charger. I too have noticed some strange battery life issues.

The same thing has happened to me. My phone for the last 2-3 weeks has been pretty solid with battery life. Charged 100% in the morning and would last all day until I get home at night with moderate use and still have about 40% life left by 8pm. This week, I have noticed that i've gone till about 3-4pm and its at 20% with hardly any use at all. I even turn off the screen right away after each use and dont wait for it to time out. Today, it seems to be getting worse. I did do a bump charge last week, but have only bump charged 2 times since Ive had the phone. Once the initial week I got the phone since many users here have stated it helps. I also know it can cause problems for the battery if done too much, so I made sure not to. Any ideas peeps? I love this phone, but the battery taking a turn like this is no bueno. :(

I have not been able to get the phone to charge to 100% since Thursday night. Twice it has gone up to 85% then it starts going down even while connected to the charger. I have it plugged in since 11pm. It reached up to 85% by 2:30 am and stayed at 85. So at 2:45 am I did a battery pull. When the phone powered back on, the battery level showed 60% ... and in a few minutes it fell back to 57% ... still connected to the charger. Now I am trying to charge it while in airplane mode and see what happens.

If all else fails, I will have to do a hard reset.

So my battery has been superb so far...but this week, like a few of you guys, it has started to kick the bucket, and this is after a steady increase in battery life from it being "broken in". I tried bump charging it again last night to see if it would make any improvement...and nope. So I flashed a new kernel...and now its dandy again. I suggest anything Adrenalyne (Sorry if I butchered your name!!!!!) puts out :)

I dont know what changed, and why....but something happened and my battery life started to be crap.

My problem was with the recharging part rather than battery life which is still doing not so bad.... actually pretty good.

And last night, I thought I'd try charging it on a different power outlet ... and, this time, the phone charged to 100% from 60% in about an hour.

so, which leads me to believe that something was wrong with the power outlet (on the wall) that I was using. It must be.. right? I can think of no other explanation.

Are you using the original USB cable that came with the HTC charger? Although the charger is definitely different from other USB chargers (higher mAh), I'm wondering how much the cable affects things.

Just today, I've experienced a surprising drop in battery life, dying before noon. The battery was very warm and I hardly used it. Nothing in Battery Use or Where's My Droid Power? revealed anything different from what I'd see with normal use. There are only two things I did differently that may be responsible for this:

1. Updated Go Launcher EX and its notifications plugin to the latest versions released this morning.
2. Used a different USB cable with my OEM charger last night.

I'm thinking the cable may be the cause of the battery drain. Can anyone else confirm?

Apparently the problem was the OEM cable. I took it back to the store, the rep tested it for a while and when she also did not see the battery level going up, she exchanged it with a generic Verizon charger+cable, which has been working like a charm.

I was reading this post and from the begining and I was going to suggest what you did.

I am having similar issues with battery life on oem battery with a non rooted TB. I personally think it is signal relateded. Some days I get 16-18 hours with normal use and a s aexample today with 6 hours of use i am down to 29%.
I due notice that some days like today the phone feels hot to the touch.
