All of a sudden, I am having a battery problem

If the phone feels hot to the touch despite not being used, there are probably rogue processes running that are causing the CPU to be active and drain the battery. The only solution I have found is to reboot when you notice this is happening.

I am so tired of the battery issues, it would be one thing if the battery only lasted for x amount of hours but this thing will do 16 hours 1 day and six hours the next. It is getting to be exhausting keeping watch and monitoring this phone. I am defiantly going to stay clear of any phone that is said to have poor battery life of battery issues. I thought I could get over the battery issues with buying the extended battery but 6-8 hours with that is just gross!

Recently, after the update, rebooting has been taking a lot of juice out of the battery. Every reboot takes away like 10% of the battery power. And no, I am not having any random reboot problems that has plagued a lot of phones out there (*touchwood*). But the normal battery life has also suffered greatly - apparently there are a lot of rogue processes running in the background, like OC Nut said. Anybody has a solution? I never use ATKs as those are more of a nuisance than a solution.

What specifically have you done to your phone to try and optimize battery life? Are you in a weak signal area? I would get system panel and set it to monitor usage for a day or so and try to pinpoint the cause of the drain. Current widget is a good gauge tool as well. It sounds like your battery may be miscalibrated.

Have you thought about rooting and undervolting the kernel? (Gingerbread is already flashable as well :))

I had rooted my previous Samsung Fascinate but I am trying to keep my TBolt unrooted as long as I can. So I guess I will start with System Panel and monitor it for now.

The thing is, the battery life was good before the update. But after I got the update, I have the battery issue. This is an old thread that has recently been bumped by Ramen Noodle. My original issue was ultimately discovered to be the OEM cable that had somehow stopped working properly. This new issue has started after the update only. So, I wonder if it is really miscalibration or is it something else ... I'll just have to wait and see....

May I ask, why? Every big name developer is working with the Thunderbolt right now, including Adrynalyne who worked on the Fascinate. Gingerbread will be optimized in no time as well.

Haha... Maybe it has something to do with me not being familiar with the software language at all, and I don't want to risk bricking this phone with a single wrong move.... I don't want to go through a nightmare similar to the force close loop hell that I had to go through with my Fascinate :)

not really a solution, but i noticed my phone pulling 300ma constantly with the screen off. i turned off mobile data and it kinda bounced between 40-150. i played music with screen off, it keeps the idle around 54-60 with the occasional spike, but still way better than before.

so, one option is to turn off mobile data. another is to run juice defender. if you still see a drain, you can try to play music. btw, you can set music to the lowest setting so you won't hear a sound. i've tried several but i prefer mixzing myself since i sometimes listen to music with headphones, and mixzing has an option to not pause playback when headphones are removed. stock or mixzing or some others seem to use about the same power. if you use music to reduce the idle power drain, do not use any internet radio, as those tend to really eat up juice.

Ah, I think you're being a little too cautious my friend. It's as simple as following directions. I'm a former blackberry owner and this is my first Android. If I could root/flash with no problems, it shouldn't be difficult for you if you've dealt with the rooting process before.

I don't want to come off like a cult leader that's trying to brainwash you into rooting lol, but the benefits far outweigh the possible negatives in my opinion. If it were most phones that didn't have the support of the development community, I would probably hold off too. There is just so many great things going on with this phone right now, and some great guides here as well to get you started. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

40-50% used today in 9 hours with 24 mins of phone calls and read 2 emails, didnt reply then in an hour I went down to 15% with only 2 phone calls each about 20 seconds.......F--- THIS PHONE!

I was supposed to go out but changed my mind, if I had gone the phone would have died on me for sure!
I should not have to hack this phone get make it acceptable

if you think that's bad... i have the extended battery and in about 5 hours it went down over 50% on idle. call verizon...they should know about these issues, even if you don't want a new phone. if no one calls to complain, they will think that there is no problem.

I also have the extended battery.

today: 18.5 hours and 45 mins of phone calls, several texts, and a little web browsing and I have only used 43%

this is what drives me nuts, I never know how long my phone will last

I have made calls about this, they said they are going to replace my battery when it is in stock and then the phone if that doesnt work. I am going to call over and over and let them keep replacing the phone until they actually fix the phone
