Got the root done, backed up everything with titanium backup, now looking for some fun things to do. Have heard about ROMS, not sure what thats all about, maybe its a new interface? Anyway, heard CM7 is cool. Can anyone tell me about it and how to get it?

HTC Inspire 4G - xda-developers
Go to the development section. All the ROM's are in this section. Make sure you read everythign about whatever ROM you're are about to flash. It will save you a headache later. Trust me. :p

thanks, got cm7 installed, but it seemed to REALLY drain the battery! Went from 97% down to 34% in about 2 hours of moderate use. Is this common?

I have no idea. I've never run CM7. I was actually thinking about it but not now. :p I know new ROM's need a "settling in" time. I'd check the thread over there. Maybe someone else knows something about it. Also, did you install the new version that just came out this morning or an older one?

I installed the version 7 stable one I found using Rom Manager. I played with it for awhile, but ultimately uninstalled it and went back to stock.

My battery life improved drastically with RC3, I'm installing the stable now.

I really like CM, HTC does a great job with hardware, but Sense sucks...

First off, if Clockwork is the only recovery you have available to you, then I guess use it. If you have anything else (Does Amon RA come for the Inspire since it's an HTC handset?) then use that instead. Clockwork sucks.

Second, you will get a huge improvement in both battery life AND speed by installing CM7 over stock, so if you're seeing worse battery life, it's probably because it wasn't installed correctly. Installing directly from ROM Manager is likely the culprit. Find a better recovery than Clockwork Mod - if possible - and then download the GAPPS and CM files onto a computer, put them on your SD card, backup your stock image (sounds like you did that already), and then clear everything off (system, data, cache, and dalvik cache) and finally flash the ROM. Then boot into CM7, let it sit for a minute, then reboot into recovery. Clear cache and dalvik, then flash GAPPS. Then reboot and you should be good to go. You don't always have to go through all those steps flashing a new ROM, but be prepared for issues like battery life to crop up if you skip steps.

try a custom kernel....dunno if there is any for the Inspire yet (im using an EVO so i wouldnt know..sorry :( ) but check to see if there is any over at xda-developers they are great over there...theres also a bunch of ROMs you can choose from over there too!

Using CM7 Stable with older radios will net you terrible terrible battery life. Im using CM7 Stable with radio version 26.04.02.17_M2 and have been on battery for 15 hours 54 min and im currently at 81%. Light use, but i remember letting it sit, not being used, with the old radio and going down 15% an hour!

CM7 won't read my SIM card

I have been running CM7 RC3 and just switched to the stable release, but it won't import any of my contacts from my SIM card. Any suggestions?

I'm confused about something...

I flashed CM7 last night and when I signed into Google it prompted me for which google apps to install. Do I still need to flash Gapps?

CM7 might end up bricking the Inspire if people can't get coding right.

I've been running into issues with my SD Card, and have fried 2 so far. Not sure if I should re-root and try this again.

Other than that, after CM7 installation, and adding Gapps, your core functions seem to work until you start getting "avoiding android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly" messages and your market apps won't install. Then what?

I've been reading about restoring the phone, but will that work? i don't know. Maybe it does.

this probably wont help you now, but what I did was upload all my contacts to gmail, then after I rooted and installed CM7, I just did a gmail contact sync. Might help for next time.

Just installed CM7, I think this is definitely something every user should do. HTC Sense looks really pretty, but lacks a lot of features. CM7 puts everything in a convenient place, and is very clean, and has a lot of very powerful features that you don't realize are handy until you go back to Sense and get annoyed that they're not there (like long press duration adjustment).
