You said that you received it yesterday. Which is it - yesterday or a long time ago? (If it's yesterday, it';s still under warranty, so you can get it fixed for free - or, depending on where you are, get it replaced.)
Ok, so what you're saying is that you've had the phone for a while, it was working fine on 12/28, and then on 12/29, you noticed the sensors stopped working.
The fact that they still don't work in Safe Mode is not a good sign. You could try wiping the cache partition from the Recovery menu, although I doubt this will help: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-21095. A factory reset would be the next step, but of course that would wipe the phone. My suspicion is that it's a hardware problem -- the same thing just happened with my daughter's 2013 Nexus 7. I don't think there's anything you can do about it, besides bringing it to a repair shop (or getting a new phone).
