All signs point towards an imminent release..BUT!

I must say, i've really been hoping and wishing for an Aug 4 release, but according to DL's latest, it's still on track for early September

DROID Bionic Poses for New Photo, More Than Likely Headed for ?Early September? Launch - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

I know we've seen a lot of leaks lately pointing to Aug 4, but I tend to believe the information that comes with something concrete like a never-before-seen photo of the bionic, instead of just screenshots of text on a monitor.

this is terrible :(

I'm taking in all information at this point with a grain of salt because my good friend at Verizon said he was told the August 4th release date is on as of yesterday. At this point we could probably visit a 1,000 Verizon stores and get 1,000 different stories on this phone.

My guess is 2,000 stories because you would hear at least 2 from most of the stores...

There is nothing to say that it isn't all BS.

This brings us back to the question from my post: Do you believe that Kellex has GOOD sources for this information? If you don't, then don't believe the information and move on.

Well I approach everything with due skepticism. A blurry pic and a claim of a report with info that moto reps are doing this or that... hard to pass the skepticism test with that. Show me the report, show me someone who actually spoke with a reliable moto rep, etc.. would be better. Everyone wants to jump on every little thing that comes out without using their good judgement to process what kind of info seems more reliable -- Not at all accusing you, fwiw you seem to understand where I'm coming from.

People don't believe everything , especially on the internet. All I'm saying is try and decide how reliable something sounds to you based on the source its coming from and the evidence provided.

To me, this recent thing from kellex sounds very unreliable and unsubstantiated. That's just me, to each his own.

My problem is that even Kellex has vacillated. Two days ago he was posting that he was "hearing 9/1" but then wrote a bunch of stuff that it was pointing to 8/4. Yeah, I understand he doesn't know, but he clearly doesn't trust his sources 100% (or doesn't have that good of information as he's leading on) if he's flipping back-and-forth between the two dates so readily.

On the bright side folks if it is true and the SGSII leak stuff is new we will all know the specs of both phones prior to the release of the BIONIC. I was really hoping for Aug 4, and it still might happen.. maybe ... but Im not waiting on a possible Nexus Prime this year.

If the SGSII has 4G it makes it a contender in my mind.. if it doesn't, well Bionic it is... now I don't have to worry about what will be out or when.

Its disappointing.. but this at least cools down my rabid frenzy for the moment. It does sound like the Bionic is much improved over what we have seen in the past based on the comments from the Tipster to DL. So I look at this as allowing me to make a more educated decision and I can do it less with my "I NEED THE BIONIC NOW" mentality.. because I apparently can not get it now :)

What I've heard from the webs is the bionic already enroute to vzw corp stores
You having it this coming weekend is definitely out of the question unless you break into Motorola where they are keeping them.

All good points. Another thing that I find very curious from the article: "According to a report received today along with this photo, Motorola reps are telling VZW folks that they should expect the device in ?early September.?"

I find it hard to believe that Motorola tells VZW when the phone will release. I would think they give the phone to VZW for final testing and say - we can have X of these to you by Y date. VZW would then decide when it is best to launch the device.

He's doing that to cover his own behind in case he's wrong. He doesn't appear very confident in his sources...especially with a lot of contradicting information.

The thing that really makes me skeptical is that whenever he mentions that 9/1 date in his posts, he always leaves that 8/4 date there too, probably to cover himself.

Except that Moto can tell VZW when they can expect to see the first shipment of devices ready for sale.

Kind of the point I made in my post. If that is what the report is saying - VZW can expect shipments in "early September" then you would be looking at a mid to late September launch date at earliest.

Why is that? I'm sure that Moto has been shipping testing devices to VZW testers already. If they are saying expect shipments early September, VZW can choose to sell them they day all stores receive them if they choose.

I find it unlikely that Motorola would be shipping directly to stores. It is much more likely they would be shipping to VZW's distribution center. The DC would then have to inventory and allocate the devices to the VZW stores.

Guys -- I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but there is one glaring thing we are missing that almost always gets leaked before a new phone is released.

That is training materials, or word that employees are going through training for the new phone. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have not seen any word on this.

Just my 2 cents, but I don't think the August 4th date is realistic at this point.

Bash away if you must....

I really don't want this to come across as "bashing", because I can totally see where you're coming from. But just to play devils advocate...... I've seen at least a couple other comments about "training" for new devices for store personal........ Really?!? "Training"?? How much different is this going to be from the dozen other phones they have in their store? Sure the specs are different, maybe the UI is a little different from other Moto phones on the shelf, but how much time for "training" do sales reps really need? It's still an Android phone, has basically the same OS as all the other Android phones they're selling. It's also pretty clear from a lot of comments in various threads that most of the store reps (and online/phone reps) aren't really all that knowledgeable about most of the devices to begin with.

Taking some of that into account, isn't it a little bit of a stretch to think that "new device training" would be a tell tale indicator of an imminent device release?

You would actually be surprised. Usually "training documents" train talking points. Why the Bioinc is THE phone to buy over all others, if there are any specials associated with it, etc...

Now were getting into technicalities. You're right, it is not likely that Moto ship directly to stores, however I have seen them do so. I worked for many years at a large retailer and we would receive "drop shipments" of the latest devices. Our shipping manifests never had these devices on them, they just showed up.

I'm sorely tempted to just pick up a Thunderbolt. I'm currently without any phone at all as I broke my Incredible and I'm in bad shape. I really hope this drops on August 4th.

I'll be buying this through my girlfriends dad's corporate verizon account. Anyone have any idea what kind of return policy they might have?

Pretty sure it's still 14 days.
