All Those With A Green Tint/Hue To Pictures - think I know why!!

Re: All Those With A Green Tint/Hue To Pictures - think I know wh

I am having the issue with green tinted photos on my Evo 3D as well. I see it to some extent in just about every picture I've taken. In most cases, it's subtle and not all that noticeable. But, yesterday we went to the beach, and the green hue is VERY noticeable on every photo I took. It's not at all subtle, and, well, it just plain looks bad. Basically, the sand which should be a normal beige sand color, looks green. The white caps on the waves also look very green. I took all of these pictures in bright sunlight with the white balance set to auto. I also tried taking a photo with the white balance set to daylight. Manually changing the white balance gave everything a purplish hue, and masked a lot of the green, but didn't actually eliminate it.

Here's a couple of sample photos, straight out of the phone's camera....

From looking at the issue and taking an educated guess, I'd say it looks like a software issue. But, some folks seem to have had luck in exchanging their phones and seeing the problem disappear. Does anyone who's done an exchange have any before & after shots to look at? I'm fine with exchanging the phone if it will solve the problem, but don't want to bother with it if it's a software issue.

Also, FWIW I also have the issue of the camera freezing after taking a photo. I have to go back and forth between home and camera until it finally starts working again.

I love this phone, but the camera is an important piece for me, so I hope this issue can be taken care of.

Thanks!

Re: All Those With A Green Tint/Hue To Pictures - think I know wh

my phone too has the green issue but only when using the flash. i need to test my wife's and daughter's phones out too since they are the same phone as mine. i hope it's software related too. unless the led flash light is actually green and not white or clear. had the camera freeze and shutdown once just showing the camera app symbol and never loading. reset the phone and problem solved.

That is Green!!! I actually had the same situation did you see my pic attached on the first page? Thats strange its happening in blasting light, you would think that wouldnt be the problem - I havent had the chance to try a beach pic with my newly exchanged 3D yet but as of now I havent seen the green in normal conditions anyway -

Also interestingly enough check out the analysis someone did on the other forums, check out how well his pics came out! I was blown away at the colors and yet no green tint, he actually goes on to say he got more of a blue hue bc the flash is so bright - all this compared to the 4G - he also says he recognizes it maybe a bad batch of software glitched phones as you can clearly see he doesnt have that problem and the only real thing he did was up the exposure to +1

Wow, pics in that link are grrreat. I too was at the beach yesterday and Dang my pics were green!

Re: All Those With A Green Tint/Hue To Pictures - think I know wh

I've only had the greenish tint in low light. With and without flash, in both 2D and 3D.

Hopefully their talk about providing an update to fix the issue comes out soon.

I received a response from HTC. They called me on Sunday.

They were able to replicate the camera issues, and have forwarded the information to the R&D Staff. The R&D staff will figure out whether it is a hardware limitation (whereas it would be impossible to fix with an OTA Update), or a software issue (which would be easy to fix).

However, he almost guaranteed that the update they're currently working on will not be released until after my 30 day mark.

Re: All Those With A Green Tint/Hue To Pictures - think I know wh

Ive noticed that the auto fix feature of the phone to touch up the pics make the pictures look better and fix up the green.. ive had to auto fix every picture with the phones feature because it does a way better job of cleaning green up and darkenin the pic a little..

Re: All Those With A Green Tint/Hue To Pictures - think I know wh

Just an update... I also contacted HTC, and like others received a response indicating that they were aware of the issue and investigating it. I was surprised that I received a totally personalized response. I included links to the same two pictures I included in a previous post, and the support person referenced them, even pointing out some additional areas of green in them. Of course, she provided no time table or any indication if this is something they can fix.

In the mean time I've continued investigating on my own. For comparison, I took a picture with my front facing camera and then one of roughly the same scene with the main camera. The difference, as you can see in the two links below, is quite striking. Although the resolution & detail on the front-facing camera is bad (as expected), the colors are much better. In fact, they're pretty much dead on. Compare that to the picture taken from the rear camera. It is underexposed, and in particular notice that the house in the background is green. In reality, the house is a medium light brown, pretty much exactly as it appears from the front-facing pic.

Rear-facing: http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/2144/imag0039t.jpg

Both photos were taken with the stock HTC camera app. I've tried toggling auto-enhance on and off and haven't seen any difference.

When I have a chance this later this week I will take my phone in and see if any of the phones in the store don't exhibit the green tinting. From looking at my photos, I'd be surprised if this was a hardware issue. If it were a hardware issue, for example if the green amp were being overdriven, or the red amp being underdriven, then the whole photo would have a green cast with all of the colors being less red, and more green than expected. Instead reds & blues both look fine in my photos, for some reason just certain neutral shades (beige, light brown, gray, some yellow) come out distinctly green. Likewise, if it were just a matter of white balance, then the whole photo would have a green cast, not just certain elements being green. Clearly the image processing is going awry somewhere, the question is where, and how possible is it to fix.

I would love to see anyone who has been able to take pictures at a beach (or heck anywhere with a lot of sand, which seems to be universally coming out green) that don't have the green hue. If you have some, please post them!

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Re: All Those With A Green Tint/Hue To Pictures - think I know wh

Ill be at the beach tomorrow,, i'll snap some!

Re: All Those With A Green Tint/Hue To Pictures - think I know wh

My first device had a green tint to the pictures as well, along with bunch of other problems. So I went to bestbuy did an exchange and my new device no longer has this issue, even in low lighting when the flash goes off.

My recommendation, take it back and get a new one. Its your hard earned money and when you pay for a premium device, you should receive one.

Re: All Those With A Green Tint/Hue To Pictures - think I know wh

I don't own an Evo 3d... yet, but after reading the posts, I have been thinking... that it might have to do with the larger glass covering both cameras as well as the dual led flash. being that light does travel and bounce around in the glass or plastic/ whatever its made out of. i believe that the flash might be over powering the shutter adding the led light with the ambient light causing the greenness. Sort of how we see a rainbow with sunlight after rain. Have any of you tried to turn off flash in the daylight? Do we know how the size and thickness combined with the led lights cause as distortion? I sure do hope its not a hardware issue because I really want the Evo 3d but the camera quality is more important to me.

Re: All Those With A Green Tint/Hue To Pictures - think I know wh

Ok so my replacement 3D which I got a few days ago to replace my orignal 3D from june 22nd is perfect except for you guessed it.....greenish tint to indoor pictures. Took a side by side shot with my old 3d vs the new one and the same shot, same angle and same lighting and the old one has no green tini the new one loaded with green tint. wtf? seriously htc. this is annoying

How can two identical pieces of hardware side by side under the same conditions have to completely different results.....same hw revision as well.....where the hell is the quality control here? Now we have to wait for a OTA fix? Great.

Re: All Those With A Green Tint/Hue To Pictures - think I know wh

I called HTC to have them log my issue with the green tint and they said the same as someone else in this thread said. That is, they are aware of the issue and that the software team is working on a fix and will be made available OTA as soon as it's done. I asked her 3 times to be sure it is fixable via software and she assured me that it is. I'll give them a few weeks and if it's not fixed and I am passed my 30 day window with sprint I will make sure HTC replaces my phone with a brand new one. I had her log it.

Re: All Those With A Green Tint/Hue To Pictures - think I know wh

Any new news on this topic? Has anyone heard of an update to fix this issue?

Did the updates cause the green to happen in the replacement phone as well?

Thank you. Tomorrow is the last day for a return for me.

Re: All Those With A Green Tint/Hue To Pictures - think I know wh

It's a software issue not hardware. Adjusting the settings can help significantly. Hopefully they push an update soon

Re: All Those With A Green Tint/Hue To Pictures - think I know wh

has it been fixed yet cause i still have this and i also got a replacement phone. boo!
