Alternative OS For Huawei?

Hi everyone,

With the latest news I need to decide what to do with the two Mate 20 Pro devices we recently purchased (but not recent enough to return..).

Are there any alternative OS that anyone would recommend for the devices? Or should we just take the hit, sell and get something that won't end up on a list?

I'd beat the rush and sell. Phones depreciate like a rock during normal times. This ban will not help, that's for sure.

I see your point. Loads on eBay already going for £300 max. That's a £350 loss on each phone. Glad we got a price match and didn't pay the full £899! Ouch

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what Sailfish OS is up to these days? Would it be possible to flash Sailfish onto a huawei phone?

I would say wait... Iam sure trump will take a fine and Huawei will be back in business.. Same happened with ZTE . Mate 20 pro works great... Even if we get Q as last update... Phone will work as normal even if no compromise between Huawei and trump...
Iam in India and very very happy with Mate 20 pro...

Just wait. You'll get peanuts for it just now with Huawei's current status and the phone is WAY too good to sell for nothing. With the bootloader locked down I don't think it's even possible to change OS or put things like Lineage on? I'm running mine as normal until it's either all sorted out and back to normal in a few months or we know for sure it's doomed and then I'll get another device but still keep the M20Pro as a backup

I've asked the retailer if they will accept a refund/exchange under the 2 year guarantee (due to no updates causing possible poor performance). See where that gets me. I'd probably go for a Pixel 3 XL instead.

However, I won't mind if I have to keep the handsets as they are good phones. There's also this:

I asked mine also as mine is a 2 year contract but they were having none of it. At least they won't do anything until there's definitive clarification on the matter

1. Huawei will have its own OS by the time the ban goes into effect.

2. I'm sure someone will jump in and start maintaining a Lineage tree for the Mate 20 Pro. There's already one for the P20 Pro.

Google is requesting to remove Huawei ban in the U.S..let's wait and watch ,I still love my Mate 20 pro amazing phone
