Alternative to Pandora?

Anyone got an alternative to Pandora? I was using it with a Pioneer car stereo (not the AppRadio) with my old iPhone 4. Now that I've converted to the Android S3, it doesn't "play nice" with units optimized for Apple products. I lost all capability to plug the unit directly into the Pioneer's USB port for a hardwired connection, but luckily Bluetooth streaming still works. When listening to my locally saved songs, the album track and artist data streams, but the album art snapshot does not. Based on some web research, I think that's a limitation of the current Bluetooth streaming protocols . . . . . not a function of either the phone or the radio. Hopefully this can be added to both devices in the future as both are flash upgradeable.

Pandora, however, seems to have a programming problem. The audio streaming works fine, but the track metadata does not at all. Nothing. Has anyone come across an alternative software where the metadata streaming is confirmed to work? The main functionality I want is the ability to list multiple artists in a big list, and then the software custom build a station for me.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Have you tried Slacker, Spotify, and Songza? I don't have an appradio so I can't check for you.

Spotify is just as good if not better, because it syncs with the Spotify software on your computer
Songza is also pretty good too

I use TuneIn Radio a lot too...not like Spotify but its a pretty damn good radio app..has every station u can think of!

I'll try Spotify. And Kevin I DON'T have AppRadio either. I clarified that since it is supposedly more Android friendly. Mine's a model 2400BT, but I'm thinking all the non appradio pioneers should work the same.

I'd tell ya....but then I'd have to kill ya!! :D

I like listening to internet radio and my preferred app for it is Xiialive! It uses shoutcast much better than Winamps app does. Although, I haven't tested Winamps app as of late.

TuneIn Radio does NOT have every station! I had to get rid of it since it had almost none of my local stations. I downloaded iheartradio and I've been good ever since.

Really? Do u live on an island? lol kidding
Well it has most stations I should say...surprised it didn't have your stations in NY

My main thing for Pandora was that it created a custom station based on artists I listed. My favorite station was actually comedians doing stand up. I tried "Jeff Fox worthy" on a whim and it worked. :)

I should say it used to have most stations, but then they conveniently disappeared.

Tried Spotify on my drive back from lunch. Exact same behavior as Pandora which is starting to make me think it has more to do with the phone than the individual software. Sound plays fine through the bluetooth connection, but the album/artist data shown on the Pioneer screen remains on the last song I happened to be playing from local storage.

Speaking of, how do you turn OFF the sound app? I found out last night it had continued playing songs in my library almost to the point of a dead battery. I can manually pause the music, but the app remains active. ATK doesn't even kill it.

Hit the menu button and it should give u the option to exit

TechNut79 is right, it wasn't as bad two years ago?but over the last two years?more and more of TuneIn Radios' [listed] stations have become not available, or 'Not streamed'; the common message that they (only leave up for a second or two) is (to the effect): Station xyz is not available. We have directed you to a similar (to them, I guess) station. Again, seems like that's become the case with an ever increasing number of TuneIn Radios' [listed] stations. Can't stand iHeartRadio. They're the worst, imo.

Nevertheless, I still listen to a lot of TuneIn Radio. In fact, it could actually be my most used app! lol  ; I still have an old free version? that's the same as their current 'Pro' version? so it let's me record any radio show, or any set of music for up to 8 or 10 hours (can't recall which).

Some of my long-time & all-time fav 'shows' on TuneIn Radio are:

? American Routes [ americanroutes.org ]
? Hearts in Space ~ Slow Music For Fast Times [ hos.com ]
? A Prairie Home Companion [ prairiehome.org ]
? THISTLERADIO.COM [ thistleradio.com ]
? Radio Heartland [ radioheartland.org ]
? Fresh Air from WHYY [ npr.org/freshair ]
? The Story from APM [ thestory.org ]

Also sometimes listen to StreamingSoundtracks.com on the 24Seven Player app, or SHOUTcast Radio on the Shoutcast Client app ? both @ goo play store.

Another app I've enjoyed for several years running: MPR Radio; it worked super great on our iPhones, and works equally as great, so far, on the GS3 & Galaxy Note.
