Always on display

I like Ambient Display but you have to move the phone to see it - I quite like the idea of the new 'Always on' display in the Samsung S7 and LG G5. Do you think something like this might come to the Nexus line, or maybe other options for Ambient Display, such as activate with motion gestures or options to keep ambient display on for longer?

Google tends not to give a lot of configuration options on their features. Doesn't mean they don't enhance it. But they are often mindful of OEM features (and their attached patents).
