Well that is a showstopper for me. There are too many devices that have an AOD now to need to consider one without it especially when you add in no wireless charging, expandable storage or IP rating too.
Shame as there is a lot to like….
The U12 is definitely on my radar. I am happy to forgo one of the features just not all of them.

Someone on Reddit who claims to be a blogger and has the phone, says it does not have aod, just ambient display. See how easy it is to make statements on the internet
HTC U12 might be a good alternative? Super LCD screen instead of OLED but it has a good Always On Display, Double tap to wake, ip68 etc too, cameras will be good also. Looks a pretty solid alternative to a Pixel etc.
No wireless charging either though
