am I stuck with bluetooth only outside the home network?

Hi,

I've been going around and around with this in my head, on the VZW site plans, twice with their online chat and with you good patient people (thank you) since I got my N7. I have an HTC Rezound phone. I sure hope I've missed something that will make this work.

1) I should use Foxfi/PDAnet to wifi the phone and the N7 however, the Rezound will not allow a wifi networking so I have to use bluetooth when I'm away from my home wifi network.

2) Bluetooth has limitations and they're limitations I don't like :( I feel like it cripples me for doing what I would like to/need to do. Heck, I can't even download an app off the Google Play Store when on BT.

3) I cannot add my N7 to my VZW account because it's not a VZW device.

4) So what? I need a new phone in order to be able to do what I want to do? What VZW phones will allow me to wifi my N7 with it? I'm no where near upgrade/contract renewal time at VZW. I have more than a year to wait. Not that I can afford it and I'm REALLY picky about my phones but if I had my choice I'd be driving a Galaxy Note :) (oooo baby!!!) but that's for Sprint people. Sigh ....

5) In one of the posts here (somewhere on A.C.) I think I read about an app that will root my phone for me as in without me having to do anything technical (sorry but rooting scares the daylights out of me). I'm no good with hardware and I don't even know what a ROM is so rooting is a pretty scary place for me to even think about going. Is anyone familiar with this app? I think it was Face something or other and some instructions from a Mr or Mrs Smith? Even if I rooted would I be able to accomplish the N7 being able to be wifi'd to my phone w/o bluetooth?

I really do not want to have to leave my N7 home because it will only run off BT on my phone. I think I just covered all the groundwork I've done, so did I miss something?

Before rooting, i would look into a phone that allows apps like foxfi, especially if you are uncomfortable with the process. I use foxfi daily for work with a Razr Maxx and it works very well. I used an ipad previously, but just graduated to an N7.

Whatever you go with will need a large battery and an unlimited data plan though. Hopefully you still have one.

I still have unlimited data but will save money by switching to one of VZW's new share everything plans. I'm not a huge data user but when I want to get on the internet or do something that I can't on bluetooth I want to be able to do it. Being unable to is just very frustrating. I don't watch movies/tv etc on either my phone or my N7. I have tv's and a desktop computer for that if I really want to watch something that way.

I'll have a look at the forum links, Pete, thank you. I have a hard time justifying not only to me but hubby needing a new phone JUST so I can accomplish this. The justification just isn't there and neither is the money. It took me 6mos to save up for the Kindle Fire I returned when I learned about the N7 <g>

Sigh, this is such a bummer and I was having so much fun with my N7. Now I either deal with the handicap or (gulp) meander into rooting -- eeeks!

I'm stuck using Bluetooth with FoxFi on my (rooted) HTC Evo 4G.

I'm actually surprised with the performance, since I was under the impression that Bluetooth is quite slow. I'm getting speeds that seem to be about 90% of what that are on my phone (in other words, the difference is barely noticeable). The downside is that a handful of apps simply do not recognize the connection and still require WiFi.

I'm having this issue on bt. Is there a fix to get the tablet thinking it's connected?

I always have to play with it 2 or 3 times to get to connect. But I think that's because I don't have the sequence down properly. If I had to do it more often I'd probably have the hang of it by now.
