Am I the only one that thinks this phone is a complete POS?

The longer I have this phone, the more I hate it.

Reasons...
  • Constant/random Phone force close
  • Constant settings force close
  • Odd screen resolution makes many apps think its not compatible
  • Undersized RAM makes it very slow
  • Frequent reboots needed to keep it running smoothly
  • Phone will not shut down correctly. Power off and the keyboard will remain lit and the red M logo will flash on/off on the screen. Have to pull battery to fix.
  • Can not charge with a USB type car charger. Actually discharges.
  • Stuck at gingerbread... forever

I'm sure there are more reasons too but that's all I can think of right now. I bought this phone in Dec to replace my Palm Pre because I liked the form factor and the battery life. Had I realized that they were just about the ONLY good points, I would've went for something different. Now I'm going to be stuck spending a small fortune to replace this POS before my contract is up. I'm never going to be able to tolerate this for 2 yrs.

I have 2 Admirals 1 for my Daughter and 1 for her Mom...

  • Daughter has nearly every app made installed on occasion i move some to the sd card to free up space Rest of phone works solid as can be.
  • Direct Connect works nicely too. No screen size issues except for a few games.but they still work.No complaints of freezing rebooting yet.
  • Both charge fine in different cars.
  • Do try Amazon app store for apps not showing in Play store
  • Her Mom uses it for work she gets alot of emails / texts all day long on it... Quick office opens all her attachments etc. Plus Facebook etc.
  • Only thing i did to them is use Launcher Pro for as default launcher and Titanium Back up 3 times a week at 3am Battery is great My kid can go from 8am to 10pm before its dead and she uses Pandora/YouTube all day it seems.
  • Kids Admiral is in a Ballistic HC case which is great for a 12 yr old.
  • 1 note I did remove Handcent SMS sine I kept seeing repeat text issues on both phones plus it messes with Avast Mobile theft SMS hidden commands
  • Yes gingerbread only BUT i never expected ICS
  • Only pulled battery once on Kids device Never on the other device.

Maybe try a Factory restore and try again

Sorry to hear about your phone issues, have you tried the update, released on 7/31/12, it has new radio but not much more. If you continue to have issues make a weekly trip to the store and demand you want a new phone or your gonna go to another provider. Sometimes they will make an exception and only charge you a restocking fee. I would never buy a motorola product, the whole locked bootloader thing, pulling of chains about being able to unlock devices and never delivering. Google only bought them for the patents. the RAZR is a joke, its throw away device it cant be repaired.

What update? I just checked here and the only update they ever pushed out was on March 14, 2012 and all that did was make it harder to tether.

I agree about not buying another Motorola product although if the Razr Maxx came to Sprint it would be tempting for the incredible battery life.

@hofs1...
  • I have done 2 factory resets in the past month.
  • Just today alone, I had com.android.phone force close 3x on me and SOMETIMES that results in the radio no longer working.
  • I see that you are rooted, so that apparently isn't causing my problems.
  • As far as the direct connect, I can't comment since I don't think I know a single person that still uses Nextel.
  • Is your car charger a typical cigarette lighter plug or is it a cigarette lighter plug that you plug a USB cable into?
  • I have been using GoSMS pretty much since I got the phone. I did try Handsent briefly but didn't like it & uninstalled
  • I do also use Amazon for some apps

My daughter and her mom DC alot.....works well and was included in my 2 Sero-P plans

Basic micro-usb car charger all in one units that output 1amp.

I dont use third party SMS apps on either phone due to interference with Androidlost

Just this week I switched my kids Admiral to Holo launcher AND froze alot of "Motoblur" stuff using Titanium...just tweaking things for "fun"

I just checked for updates on both phones and got 1 a week old update. So after I did the update I had to re-root using motofail method since Petes Motorola tools failed me this time

She says things seem faster BUT its more my need to play and "fix" things while on vacation....lol

Ok, downloading it now. Weird that the Motorola site doesn't even show this update. According to them, the Current version is Version.55.11.33.XT603.Sprint.en.US. while this new version is Version.55.11.63.en.US.

Installed. Also broke my root. Motofail worked but each time the phone rebooted I had to re-enable USB debugging. Lets hope this makes my phone suck less.

Is it worth it to freeze some of the motoblur stuff? Do you notice a difference? I use the free Titanium right now but had thought about purchasing for the freeze options.

Hmmm, just noticed some new bloatware that came with this update. I now have 'Emergency Alerts' and 'Moxier Mail'. Emergency alerts says presidential alerts are mandatory & then there are a few other optional alerts. Moxier mail is written by Motorola.

Sent from my XT603 using Android Central Forums

I simply made Holo the default launcher and froze Home along with a bunch of stuff from motorola....google around for "freeze motoblur" a few photon spots gave me ideas.

thats a quick copy from her titanium frozen list i believe there are free apps to freeze stuff just search play store

I also use LUX for auto screen brightness

Hope it all helps

wow, that's quite a list. I just installed App Quarentine Root/Freeze and froze a bunch of stuff. Lets see if it helps anything. Also, as a side note, my Titanium Back up (free version) tells my that I'm not rooted but I know I am. It used to work fine.

Man that stinks that you're having so many problems. I'm still enjoying mine.

1. Only once have I had to pull the battery.
2. I probably reboot it ~once every week or two just on principle. I would probably do this with any phone. This is just good practice IMO.
3. Doesn't seem slow usually. Occasionally I've seen rare slow-downs.
4. Car charging is fine. Try out different cables and adapters. Also load a battery monitoring app and see what mode it thinks its charging in (USB v. AC power).
5. Only ever wanted 1 app that was incompatible.
6. no ICS does suck. :(
