Am I the only one who hates the unremovable search bar?

Now I understand you can "remove" it by disabling Google Search, but I wonder what else doing that breaks in the process. Why not just have a search button instead of a whole bar? Like the Market button at the top right of the app drawer, only on the homescreen.

Even better, why not give us the option to put the search button BACK down with the other three? I actually used it there, now this permanent search bar is all up in my face like "how you gonna act". What gives?

Don't have the (VZ) GN yet, but think from the review pics that it will bug me, at least at first.

Is it pinned to the main home screen? Can you just move it to a secondary screen?

Can't be moved or removed but I'm sure with root access you'll have no problems getting rid of it.

I don't have a problem with it, I thought it was pretty annoying at first, but its nice to be able to search from wherever on the phone. No complaints here, but the option to have it on just one would be nice.

i'd like the option to remove it - but my guess is that Google wants to keep their search box there prominently on the home screen for two reasons -

1. a subtle soft "branding" for you and all to constantly see.
2. to make sure that when you think of and use search on your phone - you think of and use Google. and also to constantly remind you that Google search can solve all of your daily questions and thus drive more revenue into their pockets in so many ways. when you think of where Google makes its money - search - it makes business sense. even if they lose money on Android (which they don't) - they make it up on the search driven by mobile devices. and think of the exponential growth of activations and you will soon have how many people walking around unavoidable looking at a giant Google search box on their phone's home screen several hours of every day. that's powerful.

you can disable google search to get rid of it without breaking anything else that i have seen so far

I just want the phone dang it!!!! I'd love to gaze upon its luscious screen encasing that gorgeous search bar... had a moment there fellas... I'm sorry. :-D

I don't understand why they did this either. It was nice when it could be moved from one screen to another --- not feeling the 'always there" on every screen. I prefer to have it on only one screen and am a sad panda now.

I hate having the search bar there, because on my old phones I removed that widget.

Problem is, I could do that because there was a dedicated "Search" soft key. So every voice action was initiated with that Search key. Now, I can only do that through a shortcut on the home screen, like the Search Bar widget, unless I go into each individual app I want to use it in. It is probably the worst thing about ICS for my personal usage case.
