Amazon and Nook apps?

I've been going back and forth between a Nexus 7 and an Ipad mini retina. I have an Apple Macbook Pro and an Ipod, and currently a Motox. I like Android and IOS/OSX. I just ordered a Nexus 7 today and am pretty excited but I'm getting concerned because I'm reading that you can't view content purchased from the Amazon and Nook apps on the Nexus 7, and that Google wants to make it difficult to do so because they only want people using content from the Play store. Is this true?

Absolutely not. I use both apps extensively on my N7. In fact, I use the N7 Kindle app more than I use my Kindle Fire.

Cool, I just need to figure out how to get all my music that's on my Itunes to my MotoX and Nexus 7 now.

It depends on what content you are talking about. Books and magazines are not an issue. What is missing from the Nexus 7 (and Android in general) is the ability to stream Amazon movies. For some reason Amazon refuses to release an app to the Play Store. Some have speculated that they want you to buy a Kindle, but I can't believe Bezos would give up the opportunity to sell more content on Android tablets and phones just because it's not a Kindle. The market is just too big to simply dismiss.

Interesting. I'd probably primarily use hulu and Netflix on the nexus 7, but it would be nice to have amazon as an option, especially since I've been considering getting Prime.

This type of things makes me wonder more if I should get an IPad instead.

Well, if you want recent movies Netflix and Hulu+ is not the place to go. I have a Netflix account and can't believe the limited number of streaming movie options. Having said that, not only does Amazon have more but so does Google Play, so I guess I may start streaming Google play instead.

Not easy but not impossible. Amazon Prime Video works with sideloaded Flash and Dolphin browser.

Can't you stream Amazon videos on an Ipad? I understand Amazon wanting you to get a Kindle, but from what I understand they sell them at cost, because they make their money from the ecosystem and buying content. If that is the case, then they would want their app on as many devices as possible since they aren't getting any real benefit from having it purchased on a Kindle device.

That's exactly my point. And yes, they do have an iPhone/iPad app, just not an Android app.

True, but I am not looking for a workaround. I suppose I could always cast from a Chrome tab if need be as well.

My Nexus will be here today but I'm seriously considering sending it right back. It seems that the Ipad gives you a lot more flexibility. I was thinking about getting Prime before I bought the Nexus, and I'd like to have that option since my tablet will basically be for nothing but media consumption and web browsing.

If you havent already figured it out, Google Play Music Manager will sync your iTunes library to any android device or web browser! I run a Macbook Pro with my Android devices no problem :)
