Any workarounds to get Amazon video to work? I see primecast is no longer on play store. Would like to cast it from Nexus 6

Have you tried the Android Prime Video app from the Amazon App store. Works on my phone. Does not work on Android tablets, I guess Amazon does not want to hurt their tablet sales. Seems a little crazy since I believe they have an iPad app.

Install the phone version of amazon on your tablet vs tab version and you can get prime instant on your tablet. Works on my older Samsung wifi tab.

I think the OP wanted to get it to Chromecast. Sadly this is terribly unlikely as Amazon would rather you buy a FireTV device, which they'll happily offer to sell you as a solution rather than paying devs to add Chromecast support (or even letting someone else do it for free, as you noticed).

Another workaround from a computer is to disable Silverlight, start the video in your Chrome browser, then cast the browser tab. Not the most elegant workaround, but it works.

It isn't the best picture but does fine. I have a cast screen button Nexus 6. I just turn the screen down all the way on the 6 and watch on my TV.

I hope they add chromecast support in the app. Screen cast is not the answer.
It would be good to see them add it as well. However, considering Amazon has their own streaming stick which competes with Chromecast, I don't think we'll be seeing it added very soon.

Only thing that works for me is to cast it from the chrome browser on my PC.

I rarely use Prime because it's such a ball ache getting it to play on devices. My Sony BR player keeps trying to sign me in to Amazon US which says I don't have a Prime account - yes I do, on Amazon UK, despite my device being a UK version. None of my other devices have Prime. Playing it from the laptop drains my laptop and I have to keep it switched on during an entsire show - serious?

Prime is like the non-ubiquitous version of Netflix with a lot less quality material. Thankfully, I get my money's worth out of delivery. The video side is useless and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Amazon want me to buy the Fire TV. Fat chance, I wouldn't pay to have further clutter under my TV.

Screen casting from a Nexus 10 is unwatchable. Can new Chromebooks cast without stutters? I'm considering the Toshiba Chromebook 2 with 4gig RAM.

Are you casting local content? Screen casting works fine for me from my laptop but it's not flawless because it requires horsepower from the device, WiFi network stability and the dongle in conjunction, whereas online streaming is direct.

I can cast 720p Prime to my telly but it drains my laptop battery and 720p with all that compression doesn't look that great

I understand amazon wants you to buy their device, but if that is the case why is amazon video available on ROKU devices? It's also on my samsung smart TV.

They should make it available everywhere and will open up to more subscribers IMO.

Because they can't get away with telling Roku where to head in. ;)
