Amazon Video On Demand - Alternatives to streaming owned & rented videos

Hey Guys,

So I recently converted to a Moto X from an iPhone, and I currently have an iPad tablet. My girlfriend is planning on switching to a Moto X also, and she already owns an aging and battered original Kindle Fire.

I got her a new Nexus 7 tablet for christmas, in a view to replace the Kindle Fire.

Now I find out though, being new to Android still, that there is no Amazon Video On Demand app for android (other than the Kindle).

This is a real disappointment to me, as I was planning to use Amazon as my primary source for renting & buying movies now, with the idea that whatever device, be it my phone, tablet, xbox, chromecast, etc, would be able to stream that content.

It seems that Amazon also have no intent to release this app for the regular Android tablets (clearly its not a tech issue). So I am looking for alternatives to base my video content and I am open to all suggestions.

Right now I use netflix primarily, and that is obviously available on everything. But I am looking for something for renting newer content, and buying things I want to download to my device to watch off-line.

The best solution I can come up with is maybe Flixster, especially since that is paired with Ultraviolet.

EDIT: I looked into Google Play, but I couldn't figure out if its possible to download videos for offline viewing on devices that doesn't have the dedicated app (ipad for instance).

EDIT #2: Just for fun I emailed Jeff Bezos.... I got this response. If anything it shows that there is some future chance we may get the instant video app on all android devices:

Subject: Android Amazon Video On-Demand App

Hey Jeff,
I just thought I would send you a quick e-mail pleading with you to release a table On-Demand app for android. I bought my girlfriend a Nexus 7 for Christmas, rather than the Kindle Fire, because she has a paperwhite already and I thought she would prefer to be stock android for a tablet. Then only after ordering it I found out you don’t have an app for other Android tablets other than Kindles.
Please can you do something about this, she watches tons of shows from Amazon!
Thanks
Pete

Best regards,
Raghavender S.
Thank you.

It is disappointing that there still isn't an app, whether from Amazon or third party, that streams VOD or Prime videos...
