Disable the Amber Alert? Why? If this was your child or loved one that was missing, wouldn't you want EVERYONE looking for them?
Amber Alerts have saved 750 or more kids. And that's a national number. There are many many more local and regional alerts - amber and silver, that are not counted. In the above case, police & FBI believe the victim has been transported across numerous state lines possibly towards Ohio.
Again, remember this when someone you know and love disappears.

I agree that Amber Alerts are valuable, but I can also understand why people don't want to be awakened in the middle of the night by a loud notification or vibration. On my Nexus 5, I can go to Settings>Wireless & Networks>More>Emergency Broadcasts, and select which kinds of emergency broadcasts to receive. I can choose to turn vibration on or off, but can't set it to silent.

I understand your statement completely but at 2:15 in the morning this northern NJ resident is not going out to look for a child missing in Delaware. I get it, it's important, but the hour that this came in coupled with the time I have to be up for work and not being able to get back to sleep is troubling.

There are way too many Amber alerts. It is way over used by the Police. Usually it's a parent who took the kid and is using it as a pawn in a custody dispute. I too have turned them off. They used to be valuable until they started being abused.

lol, I guess if you could it wouldn't be an alert any more....more like a gentle notification :)

True, but most people check their phones multiple times a day while they're awake, so the notification would be clearly visible in the notification bar. I just don't think an Amber Alert is something that should wake a person up in the middle of the night.

I can relate. The first time an Amber alert went off on my phone I thought I was being abducted by aliens.

I'll tell you why. This morning at about 2:00 AM I received an Amber Alert for a city 230 miles from me. If that's the best they manage them, I don't want to receive them.

On my LG Escape 2 Android Version 5.1.1 I found the place to turn them off here :
Settings >>Networks tab>>Tethering and Networks>>Emergency Alerts.
For me this is a blank screen with the message that issued alerts will appear on this screen.
Click the 3 dots at the top and it opens a Settings tab. Click that and there are the check boxes for the different alerts you can turn off.
