Ambient Display or LED..which do you prefer?

I'm thinking about using the LED, rather than ambient display. The reason for me is that ambient display lights up my screen all the time. Pick up my phone from my desk to put it in my pocket? Screen lights up. Take it out of my pocket and put it on my desk? Screen lights up.

My screen tends to light up quite often.

I'm thinking a flashing LED (with something like LightFlow to customize colors) might be my preferred setup with the 6P.

Opinions anyone?

You could make a similar argument against the LED for always flashing even if it isn't being interacted with. At least with the Ambient Display most of the time when it is activated, it is showing multiple things in one short burst of screen on time (current time, and all recent notifications) and its during a point when you're actually looking at the screen. Whereas the LED could pulse for hours just because there's a new notification and it won't matter if you're actually looking at the phone. Plus the LED can really only show one notification at a time (unless you want to start a light show).

Also remember that with the AMOLED only the pixels needed for the ambient notifications light up, so it isn't like it has to light up the entire display, so it's not nearly as battery draining as you probably think it is.

The LED flashing all the time is actually a plus, not a minus. You can see that you have a voicemail/msg/email/etc from across the room, without needing to jigger the phone.

Ambient Display is kind of annoying so far, but I'm trying to give it a chance for a while. I much prefer the LED, but both have their uses. When the phone is close to me and lying on a table, Ambient Display is helpful. But I'm not so sure it's that much more useful than the LED. I could see if it were only triggered when I nudge the phone, but I have to basically stand the phone upright for it to activate.

The only thing keeping me from buying this phone is the poor feedback regarding ambient display.

I'm coming from two straight Moto X phones and for me, active display is nearly a "must have" feature.

After using it for two years I'm not sure I can go without it. I tied once with an S6 and couldn't hack it.

Someone tell me it'll be ok :)

To me, it sits between LED and ambient. It is not as saturated or have that rainbow likely color when u look at it at an angle. If u like LED, u should be fine with this. It's not a Samsung like ambient

When I get my 6P I'll turn off ambient display just like how I did on the N6. Even with AMOLED, Motorola listed the N6 has having better battery life with Ambient Display OFF and I notice it too.

Ambient display on the 6p is a joke. It works less than half the time. Motorola does it 10x better.

Get the Moto X pure edition, it has the features you want and is silky smooth.

I'll turn them both off and use Android wear.

This! I don't have a smart watch but I have a fitness watch that shows me messages and callers and I use that more then anything.
