An email to verizion.

This is in no way a reflection of our little corner of ac. We are without a doubt, from my experience the best forum on ac.

This thread got a bit testy, but most in here do not have a rez and need to troll elsewhere. I understand why I got the infraction but disagree.

At then end of the day you have to ask, do you help more than you hurt?

Points for trolling have been handed out.

zog1977, you need to check your PMs.

further offenses in this thread = ban for a week. I'm too busy for this.

I don't think I was trolling, but whatever. I have seen worse posts.

Wow! Reading the posts in this forum reminds me of exactly what's wrong in America today. Regular people don't stand up for what they believe in anymore, and when someone does they quickly quell that notion with sit down and shut up for complaining.

Regardless of whether the OP roots or not, he still had a valid complaint. He could have actually rooted or updated his phone, and he would still have a valid complaint. A really valid complaint. You realize that by paying him that Verizon admitted guilt and set a precedent? It is in hope that he will just go away and be quiet about it. He could really make some headway into this if he wanted to...

I understand that the dev community does many great things for us Android users, and I more than applaud that, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't still hold manufacturers and carriers to task for promises made on their products and services. In fact, it can be argued now, that manufacturers are delegating their responsibility to devs without compensating them.

We should not castigate someone for doing the right thing even if there is another way for them to remedy the problem and move on regardless of whether they have other options or not. We should also not take a defeatist attitude towards change in corporate America spamming thoughts of "it will never happen." When did we become so complacent?

If police are corrupt and do not do their jobs, you don't tell people to stop complaining, that's the way it is, the vigilante community will take care of it. It's amazing what corporations get away with in the world of Mobile that no other industry can get away with.

Im sorry, how could the OP make headway here? Where in the signed contract does it state anything about verizon releasing software updates?

Let me sum this up for you. The OP wrote to verizon in distress because of not getting an update that was never even "promised" yet that word gets thrown around everywhere. He basically said "I cannot use this phone, its not on ICS and I am upset". Now, seems to me, the solution to the problem would be getting a new phone with ICS for him correct? That would take a lot of effort on everyone's part so instead verizon said here, take this credit on your bill. The OP responds saying he his happy with that resolution.

Its just hilarious to me, i'm sorry. To make this much of a fuss about not getting ICS when its actually available, then when they offered money he said sure ill take it. He still has his so-hated gingerbread rezound that seems worthless to him because it doesn't have ICS, yet he is happy because they gave him money.

Edit: here is my proposed solution. Walk into the Verizon store and explain to them how upset you are about not getting ICS. A fair deal would be to have them push your upgrade to now and/or give you a discount on either the gs3 or gnex (or Razr, some phone with ICS that's official).

While it's great tht the OP got credit.. When i attempted something like this very recently I was pretty much told to bad so sad... And I was pleasant

Good for you OP. I'm with you. Why is it so hard far people to understand that not everyone that owns an Android phone is into rooting and putting custom Roms on their phone. Some people simply don't have the time to mess with it. It seems every Android phone I've had, has went through the waiting game. If I weren't expecting it to fix some bugs I have on the Rezound, I wouldn't care about waiting as much. This whole mess is why I'm considering going with a different OS.

I think those of you that complain about others (myself included) are going to be disappointed when ICS does cone in OTA form. If you're so content on keeping a stock phone what is so important that ICS brings that GB doesn't already have? Some of you like the OP make it sound like the resound is not even usable unless it has ICS on it.

Just take a moment to look at viperRez Rom to see the amount of features you're missing out on...

Bond32;1999333 Im sorry, how could the OP make headway here? Where in the signed contract does it state anything about verizon releasing software updates?

The OP could make headway if other people joined in his stance instead of suggesting he move on. The update was promised. It was promised in sales ads. But even on a bigger stage, manufacturers and carriers should be responsible for this in a timely fashion if they are going to lock bootloaders and make subsidized contract lengths a period for times the life of the device the've sold. This is the stuff Class Actions are made of.

I've read the thread. No need to sum it up. But I will explain this to you...when companies use a feature in advertising a product it that is instrumental in consumers buying said product it obligates them to supply that feature in the manner that they advertised in America. Look up synonyms for obligation. I'm pretty sure promise is in there. The solution is for Verizon to honor its obligations or provide enough monetarily to honor those obligations. Yes, it takes a lot of effort. Your point with that? Verizon offered a credit and the OP was happy with that but what about others who have this problem that aren't happy with the credit the OP took?

Its just hilarious to me, i'm sorry. To make this much of a fuss about not getting ICS when its actually available, then when they offered money he said sure ill take it. He still has his so-hated gingerbread rezound that seems worthless to him because it doesn't have ICS, yet he is happy because they gave him money.

It shouldn't be hilarious at all, I'm sorry. For corporations to spit in the face of its consumers and renege on product/ services promises shouldn't be hilarious. It's shameful that we don't make enough fuss about these things. Regardless of whether ICS is available the carrier should be held responsible for unethical practices. I'm not saying that he shouldn't have updated his phone, but to suggest that he give up on his efforts to hold Verizon to task because ICS was available is ridiculous. It's amazing how lazy this country is. Effort, as you said, will detour anything.

Edit: here is my proposed solution. Walk into the Verizon store and explain to them how upset you are about not getting ICS. A fair deal would be to have them push your upgrade to now and/or give you a discount on either the gs3 or gnex (or Razr, some phone with ICS that's official).

Its crazy that your solution proposes a discount. The OP paid his money and Verizon didn't deliver. A fair deal would be for Verizon to take the phone back and give the OP a phone with ICS on it if they don't push ICS to his phone, or offer enough money for him to get a phone that fulfills that promise.

And before anyone says "Verizon should give him a new updated phone for his 7 month old phone?", here's the answer...Yes they should because when he bought the phone it was brand new top of the line.

That is a great post cbbartley. Well explained and well reasoned.

"It's amazing how lazy this country is." -- For decades I've said that if the public back in the early 1770's was like the public today, we'd all still be loyal subjects of the British Crown.

See that's where I think its misunderstood by those who are saying things like this. Most of these people are down right upset, with good reason, that these carriers and manufacturers are not honoring their obligations on products that they sale. It's not just ICS. The OP in this thread is upset that he was lead to believe that his phone would be updated with the next iteration of software. This was advertised and backed by a news press release by the carrier itself specifying a time frame for this to happen. Though the dev community is absolutely great, people shouldn't have to rely on them to do the jobs of carriers and manufacturers. Carriers and manufacturers shouldn't be passing the buck to devs to do their jobs for them.

I think they should put together a class action suit, but how will that happen when everyone who stands up to be heard keeps being told by their peers to sit down, shut up, stop complaining, find an alternative and move on because it's too much effort involved?

Again, I agree with you cbbartley. You are right, the problem is more than ICS. It is more than Verizon, although they are part of the problem. And, it is more than HTC, although I think that HTC might not be to blame in this case. The problem is with so many corporations and politicians that get away with making promises they don't keep. They cynically manipulate us into voting for them or buying their products or services and then ignore us when we demand what they promised.

It really is the bigger picture, not just ICS. Every time we take this from them and don't complain, we have just made OURSELVES weaker and less caring about what is done to us. We become complacent, cynical, and uncaring about how we are treated. Ultimately we risk becoming as bad as those who manipulate us.
