Greetings, I recently upgraded to an S20+ from an S9+ and am running Android 11. I just discovered, much to my dismay, that I am unable to attach files to any email application due to some permissions/privacy issue with internal storage.

Short of rooting my phone or using code to solve this, is there any way to fix this? I attach files all the time, and having to copy them to my SD card every time I want to attach something is a huge hassle! Any help that solves this problem is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

As a follow-up on this scoped storage business, I did find that the X-plore app lets me attach files to Gmail and share files to Dropbox. Looks like I will use that file explorer app from now on as I see no workarounds for this issue.

Just to be sure -- you've gone to Settings>Apps, selected Gmail, then Permissions, and made sure "Files and media" permission is on?

I don't have FIles and Media under Permissions. What I do see is a Storage permission and that is enabled to 'allow access to media only'.

Yeah, I just looked on my A32 5G, and it's called Storage there as well (I was using my Pixel 3a XL initially). But I can attach files without any issue on the A32. Do you get an error message?

Interesting. Maybe I changed that Storage setting to allow files to be attached in Gmail, because it is working now. Thank you for the suggestions.
