Upgradable to 9 - no further. LineageOS 17.1 is available for the S8/+, so 18 (Android 11) may be ported too.

At one point, I remember reading where the S8 would get the most recent/current OS, and then there was a change and they announced the answer was no. I remember people being up in arms and upset about this. From what I gather -- and yes, I know, what do I know, LOL -- my IT/tech people say the S8 has fallen off the list so to speak. I guess it's just the oldest or least newest and that's that. At a certain point, as more devices come out, don't they have to drop off one or two? I know with VZW, when I bought devices from them, at a certain point I'd call tech support and they'd tell me that "they are no longer "supporting" that device, and it now has "unsupported device" status with VZW." For me, it's not a major impact at this point as I bought my last device unlocked and did a BYOD with VZW. That was a traumatic step for me, LOL.

I still haven't taken the Software Update with the Security Patch Level of June 1, 2020. LOL. I'd like to, but I hear too many stories of people updating and then something not working, the device not functioning properly, etc. I am lucky I can turn the phone on and off, so if something happens as a result of the update, I am pretty much in deep trouble, LOL.
