Android 13 Quarterly Platform Release

Are we locked into the beta for the next 12 months if we opt in?
I'm not certain, but I think the answer is yes, you will be locked in.

Of course, you always have the option to wipe your device and revert to the stock OS .

No, you can opt out at anytime. The only caveat is, in order to go back to stable you will need to fully wipe your phone

This is what people mean when they worry about being "locked in".

Fully wiping and then rebuilding a phone is not an easy task. And, having been there before, you cannot simply restore an online backup because the "older" OS that you have now installed will not recognize the backup that was created by a newer version of the OS. Been there, done that.

It really isn't that bad.

It's much better than it used to be. I did it a few months ago. Restored from a backup. Even so, it took me a while to get everything back like it was. I used to not mind going through that back when I flashed ROMs. Not anymore. I installed this knowing that I would be stuck with it for a while. So far, so good.

Everything seems a bit smoother and more responsive with this quarterly update.

Can one be a Google Gboard beta tester while being a part of the 13 Quarterly feature drop beta?

Ok so, I have been running this as a primary phone for a week now. I have noticed 2 things

1. Battery life has improved, a lot. This is more standby time and I really don't track screen time because I don't care about that. What I care about is how long I go before I get that urge to put it back on the charger. I've not had to put it on the charger before the end of the day and if it is, it's because I use AA on my car.

2. I'm not experiencing any call drops like I previously was.

And related to both 1 & 2 doesn't seem to get AS hot. Don't get me wrong, it still gets warm but I haven't considered this as hot as of late. We had a couple of 90+ degree days here in Ohio this week and previously I just couldn't stand it to my face. And this made the battery nose dive.

I'm happier with this phone now with this than I was.

Anyone get the October security update?

You will not get the October security release (or any release for Stable Android) if you are running the beta. The stable releases won't run on a beta OS. All your updates will come as beta releases.

I just noticed that I have the October 1, 2022 Google Play System update. Anyone else?

I too have the October 1 play update. It came with the beta. Now I await the next beta drop.
