Android 2.2.1 upgrade

so i thought i figured it out but was mistaken. when i go to settings>about phone>software it says Android 2.2

I had put a zip file that i found to be the update, booted in h-boot and installed it but it still says im on 2.2

any suggestions?

I called TMO and they said they would send an OTA update but I havent gotten it yet - why is it so difficult to update the MyTouch 4g?

Well, it depends. You may have gone from 2.21 to 2.29 (I never bothered to install it). But basically, it's 2.2 in all respect.

Maybe TMO is waiting for an update to 2.3 (gingerbread). If this is the case, they will wait to push it to all phones.

Orrr.... you could always take the plunge, root your phone, then put in a custom ROM. Or, you can wait for your provider to push an update to you.

I am looking for the upgrade so I can root. I already have s-off and rooted the phone but the Rom Manager wasnt working for some reason. I am assuming it was because i havent received my OTA update yet (from the stuff I have read you need to have the OTA for the whole process to work)

Need more Information about the Mytouch 4g being ROOTED

I have several questions about mytouch 4G phone... I just rooted my phone like 3 mins ago and I dont see any changes or anything like that. What does a ROOTING your phone do exactly?

When your phone is ROOTED what all can you do with it? Like what cool stuff can you do to your phone? Or is rooting your phone only beneficially for people that know how to program phones??

I know someone said "ROOTING" your phone is like jailbreaking for the Iphone. But with the Iphone you get all the apps that cost for free and there were a lot of cool and non-complicated features the Iphone had once it was JAILBROKEN.
So my question is since I am not a techno freak WHAT AM I CAPABLE OF DOING WITH MY "ROOTED PHONE"??

Have people made different APPS/ROM for ROOTED PHONES, if so where can you look for it??

I am just curious because I feel like I rooted my phone for nothing.

Your phone wont appear any different once you just root it. You will gain access to many more apps that you would not otherwise be able to utilize without root. The main "feature" of rooting though is changing roms. To be able to do this, you must first flash a custom recovery. Once your rooted, its pretty painless. Go to the market and download ROM Manager. Open it and click 'Flash ClockworkMod Recovery' or something like that. You now have a custom recovery and can flash custom ROMs (a simple search on Google will provide you with tutorials and links). Trust me, you didn't root for nothing. There are numerous benefits to rooting like making your faster phone, having a different look, and much more.

Ok So what kind of ROM makes your phn faster?? Is there any suggestions in what ROMS to load on phone??
